Further the blame for America's slavery past is placed upon the whites now living in America who had virtually no dog in that fight. A tiny, tiny number of current Americans are related to the mainly British and French elite who received huge land grants to grow Indigo and rice in the rich soil of the south in the 1600's. Read "Slaves in the family" for a true, true picture. Written by one of the great, great, great, greats of the original Ball Plantation owner/rice farmer in Charleston.. A heart rendering and dramatic picture. They owned many white slaves per the old, old mainly black women interviewed who passed down the stories. The whites were used for more technical tasks such as builders but were far less valued and received less food and medical care and shelter than did the black slaves since the black slaves were highly valued and were worth a ton of money. And the whites were expected to move on after about 7 years. Those whites were the forefathers of most of the white pop of today's south. The extreme poverty of the southern whites in the 19th and 20th centuries was a direct product of the start they received in America. And underscored the worthlessness of their lives for years.
However the stain on blacks is still felt. And then reconstruction pitted the poor whites against the poor blacks just released from bondage. South losing the civil war saved both as it were. Particularly the poor whites as it gave them value. Value as share croppers which replaced slavery. The poor whites were manipulated by about 1380 ultra rich southern aristocrats into "protecting THEIR country" and fighting the fight for these ultra wealthy land owners who had dreams of owning the west, Mexico and invading South America. One hell of a story.

The only response to the reparations argument is:
Do we compensate the families of the hundreds of thousands of white Union soldiers who died or were maimed in an effort to free the slaves?
Do we compensate the white families who protected runaway slaves on the Underground Railroad sometimes at a cost of their own lives and livelihood?

I understand. I honestly think there are too many grifters on the right who love this little sweet spot in the left's racism dialectic. They'd rather sit around talking about who the real racists are, because people are so wound up over the whole issue. It's disgusting and people need to stop supporting that shite. Get out of the narrative, make your own narratives.

There's absolutely no reason for us to be discussing slavery in 2019. Don't let Democrats suck you into their game.

All that may be true, but slavery in America was pretty shitty and trying to justify it looks pretty awful too.

The man posted interesting facts. Not a lick of justification. Read, it'll help you. Slavery was an abomination foisted upon the poor south, and the north for a time, both whites and blacks and the effect is still felt today. Read my post above for the truth.

quote:Still doesn't stop facts and logical thinking. Many people do act based on their feelings. That doesn't make it wrong or right. When you can take emotion out of the argument, it makes things easier. Easier said than done, I know.
This is just not true, and It doesn't matter how many times that worm Ben Shapiro says it. Feeling actually don't care about facts and people act based on how they feel.

Facts and reason are very potent, I've recently heard someone propose that much of the west's success is based on developing and adopting a systematic approach for finding truth. Basically the scientific method.
I don't know if that's really the reason for this period of relative success, but it seems plausible. I think it's important to note that facts and logic are not enough in and of themselves.

quote:Interesting point. If you asked 100 blacks if they'd like to assume their present station in life, only in Africa if they could be instantly transformed, how many would say "yes"....just asking.
In an odd twist, bringing slaves to America was a phase of them being freed. Had they been held in Africa, they might still be enslaved

The founder of planned parenthood was a Democrat and a huge believer in eugenics.

Bottom line, the past has to be left where it is, in the past. It will not change, no matter how bad some may want it to. If people would just learn to live the life they have and quit pissing and moaning about stuff like this, they would learn that it isn't as bad as they are led to believe. Cut the strings, get away from the puppet masters and mouthpieces that only care about themselves and the money you can make them.

Coach, it is interesting that Lincoln wanted to send them back and did send some to Liberia I believe plus he helped create a South American country to ship them too. Almost to a black slave they refused to go. No thank you!

I think u miss the larger picture here. This game is continually played by the left and will continue. For decades conservatives have been doing exactly what you say, walk away, ignore and be quiet. Where has that gotten us? Did they stop or continue to push?
Now where are at a point where these race baiters and apologists control our educational system, media and soon maybe our government. Reparations are being pushed as a national platform and spewed from the lefts media mouthpieces. Hatred of white people transcends all media platforms and has become socially acceptable and fully without accountability. Will reparations be the end or simply another step?

Once you engage in the banter, it's over. They've won.
For example, when a leftist calls you a racist, it's a smear in 2019, but 100 years ago, it meant something entirely different. When you say "no YOU are the racist", you are ceding their definition of the word in question. They win, because what's important is the frame (racism = what they want it to mean). Whether or not you successfully defend yourself, they will now use this word on anyone else, and it's ability to end and an actual discussion and begin a defensive argument is greater than before.
It's hard to see this now, because they've dominated that word (racism) for so long, but you could try it with other words too and see how easy it is to do, and also how easy it is to avoid. You cannot win by engaging it. You have to immediately deny their frame by not engaging.
