Did I say him and the other founding fathers weren’t? Darth responded to someone who called him a traitor. That’s what I responded to. And he is a traitor. Now you can take that however you want but he did betray the country and it’s military. Again I’m not saying he’s evil because of it or anything because the world isn’t black or white.

Many of the tales about Grant being a drunk were just tales
It’s been reported in other generals, captain, colonels, and many news reporters writings of his heavy drinking. Personally I like to drink also, so I don’t hold that against him, but he wasn’t some perfect fine upstanding man either

I know this is hard to wrap your mind around due to your modern mindset. But at that time, your home state held a far more profound meaning and importance than it does today.
Ahh, you're a war of Northern aggression kind of guy.

Let’s not act like the north was just a bunch of innocent lambs.

Nah, they weren't saviors by any stretch. However, you've got to be willfully ignorant to frame it as a northern aggression thing.

Yes, the man liked to drink, as do I. Much of the reporting on his drinking was exaggeration according to most civil war historians, but who would blame the man considering what he was dealing with even if it's all true. One thing that does annoy me is when people run down Grant's ability as a general and his character, because most don't realize how generous the terms of surrender he gave to the surrendering army were.
He even reamed out President Johnson for allowing a grand jury to charge Lee with treason. Johnson caved and had the charges dropped.

He was all or nothing surrender until Pemberton. He may have relaxed after that though.
ETA: for the most part Grant always had a much bigger force which was common obviously. He pretty much always went in to battle with the upper hand before it started
ETA 2: I’m not all anti Grant don’t get me wrong. He obviously made what he had work

No. I’m just s guy who takes pride in looking at history objectively. I think the world would be a better place of more people had the ability to do so. And that means being able to look at matters like the American Civil War from both sides’ perspectives.

Meltdown: Day 56,247

quote:
In February, 1861, after the secession of Texas, my father was ordered to report to General Scott, the Commander-in-Chief of the United States Army. He immediately relinquished the command of his regiment, and departed from Fort Mason, Texas, for Washington. He reached Arlington March 1st. April 17th, Virginia seceded. On the 18th Colonel Lee had a long interview with General Scott. On April 20th he tendered his resignation of his commission in the United States Army. The same day he wrote to General Scott the following letter:
“Arlington, Virginia, April 20, 1861.
“General: Since my interview with you on the 18th inst. I have felt that I ought no longer to retain my commission in the Army. I therefore tender my resignation, which I request you will recommend for acceptance. It would have been presented at once but for the struggle it has cost me to separate myself from a service to which I have devoted the best years of my life, and all the ability I possessed.
“During the whole of that time—more than a quarter of a century—I have experienced nothing but kindness from my superiors and a most cordial friendship from my comrades. To no one, General, have I been as much indebted as to yourself for uniform kindness and consideration, and it has always been my ardent desire to merit your approbation. I shall carry tot he grave the most grateful recollections of your kind consideration, and your name and fame shall always be dear to me.
“Save in the defense of my native State, I never desire again to draw my sword.
“Be pleased to accept my most earnest wishes for the continuance of your happiness and prosperity, and believe me most truly yours,
“(Signed)
“R. E. Lee”
Sounds like a real traitor

You're not wrong...but then again, so were the Founding Fathers.
He is absolutely wrong. Lee was never tried for treason. Neither were any Confederate soldiers. They are all considered American veterans.
A fine point that idiots can't seem to grasp.

The US didn't go to war with Virginia, although that might just be semantics, but otherwise I agree.

He won, and Lee and his men walked away free. Believe what you want.

Using that definition, Lee was a traitor and Washington was not.
Kisses.
(What a shitty point you boiz make when you do this. When we call Lee a traitor, it is obvious that we mean that he’s a traitor against our country. For you to think you have a point by saying “Someone else was a traitor to another country” certifies you as mentally retarded and afflicted with melt.)

I thought we were actually discussing history. I’m not mad or arguing. I know he won, I’m also very glad he did. Not sure what your point is.
ETA: I slightly misread, yes I know about Lee walking away. He had been an all or nothing is what I was saying prior to Vicksburg, on surrendering. Even Vicksburg was intensive negotiations to get parole instead of prison
ETA 3: He also took a lot of shite for letting Pemberton and Vicksburg prisoners walk free after parole.
