I built a cedar planter to plant flowers on my apartment porch and have had a few inquiries about building them for other people. $60-$70 in materials, how much should I sell them for?

I'd start with how long does it take to make one and what you feel your hourly rate would be.
Add the value of your time to the cost of materials and see if you'd think people would buy the planter for that amount

Figure out how much time you put into each one, and figure out what your time is worth.

Same thing happened after I put up the cedar shutters on my house. $94 in materials per pair but would be over $300/pair for my time. Nobody's come back with the cash yet... ![](https://images.tigerdroppings.com/Images/Icons/IconLOL.gif)

I think you can find some small ones on amazon for about $60.
I ordered some pretty nice 6x3 ones for $117. I priced the wood at Lowes and wasn’t thaaat much cheaper. I don’t remember the exact price.

I figure in $50/hour for my labor on stuff like that. You find out real quick if they're serious or not.

If you live in an apartment...where are you building these?

tradesmen time = $30/hr
material mark up = 1.5x
70x1.5 = 105
2hrs = 60
$165

I just finished this one last night. This my my first real woodworking project and I was happy with the way it turned out. It’s 46”x19”. For all of the supplies it was $96. If I used cedar instead of angle iron for the legs it would have been closer to $75.
Question for everyone, what do y’all usually plant in these. I am thinking of using it mostly for cooking herbs, but are there some other good options to throw in besides tomatoes?
