re: Why Is Illegal Immigration a Thing When Visas are So Easy?
Posted by arpreacherman on 7/12/25 at 12:21 pm to PurpleandGold Motown
Your brother must have an HR department and immigration attorneys who handle the difficult and expensive parts… We spend several thousand to enter the random lottery with no promise of being selected. Lottery Group A is the only group guaranteed their full request. We were group D this year and fortunately got our guys under the supplemental cap which is limited to returning workers and requires additional filings and fees. 11 of our 12 visas went to guys we’ve bought previously and we had over 300 applicants for the 1 remaining visa. Between filing fees, travel reimbursement, housing assistance, and having to pay all of our guys the DOL prevailing wage there are minimal savings over hiring local guys and carrying them through winter, just can’t find enough local guys.

Appropriate age for Washington DC?
Posted by arpreacherman on 7/30/22 at 2:29 pm
Haven't been to DC in a few years and would like to get back. My previous trips have included walking anywhere from 5-10 miles a day exploring museums and monuments. Obviously that won't work with my 3 year old in tow. Anybody been to DC with young kids? Is it even worth trying or should we just wait until she's older?

What kind of linear footage are we talking? And what is machine access like? Sounds like a bargain compared to what we’re bidding these days.
Meat Markets Who Ship?

On the search for a good online Cajun meat market. I need bacon-wrapped duck breast, tasso, and andouille then a little of this and some of that. Anybody know a place?

Spray paint bed lines and spray a heavy dose of roundup. Don’t buy edging from Home Depot or Lowes, get raw steel from a local metal supplier, 4” or 5” x 1/4”, should run around $2/foot, comes in 20 ft pieces. They’ll have stakes as well. Work in screened top soil and quality compost. I use bagged cotton burr compost but mushroom is good as well. If you’re in Louisiana go to Forest Hill for plants.
Outdoor Stove
Posted by arpreacherman on 10/31/19 at 3:02 pm
Looking for a new outdoor stove primarily for the camp, but also portable enough to take tent camping. Mostly used with skillets or a griddle. I've decided against a griddle for portability and the ability to keep a burner open for beans/rice/whatever. Talk to me about high pressure vs low pressure.

But do I need the extra space of a Champ Chef Explorer?

Or meet in the middle with Gas One?

You can use cattle salt from a feed store in a swimming pool as well.

Which SEC town has the worst Texas infestation?
Posted by arpreacherman on 9/7/19 at 2:23 pm
I live in Fayetteville and almost got hit by an a-hole from Texas in the grocery store parking lot this morning. It made me wonder where it's worst? Fayetteville, Oxford, Tuscaloosa, or Baton Rouge? UARK has about 6000 students from Texas right now, plus however many have graduated and stayed here.

First streetview Geoguesser gave me pine trees, cabins, a trailer park, and a little bit of snow. I guessed Appalaicha and it was Northern California. Far apart, but similar terrain.

Duck hunting can be fantastic but is inconsistent on public land. There are some monster bucks in that area, public or private land. You thinking about hunting there or moving there?
Markup on cedar planters?
Posted by arpreacherman on 4/7/19 at 1:24 pm
I built a cedar planter to plant flowers on my apartment porch and have had a few inquiries about building them for other people. $60-$70 in materials, how much should I sell them for?
