The Pac-12 is seeking $750M from investors, considerably more than the $500M it originally discussed four months ago, according to multiple sources. The conference will distribute $700M of that investment to its 12 schools. The other $50M will go into a new entity to manage the conference’s media rights and networks. The breakdown is detailed in official bid books that the conference sent to potential investors in recent days. The bid book, which is more than 70 pages, identifies the Pac-12 media holding company as NewCo, which includes all the conference’s media rights and the Pac-12 Networks. NewCo reported an EBITDA of $286M last year, according to the bid book. The book does not outline a timetable to complete a deal, but sources indicated the process will unfold over the coming weeks. The Pac-12 did not comment.

This sounds like a bad idea for all involved.

If you invest $750 aren't you basically buying the conference?? I'm sure anyone who puts up that kind of money would basically want to run the whole damn thing like a business. By the very nature of taking a private investment that big, your conference should basically becomes a semi-private company and operate like one.
That means appointed ceo, board, etc all doing the investor's bidding. That also means no more money losing sports... So goodbye eveything not named football or basketball.
What a total failure of a conference. You don't f-ing pay your labor and they still can't make it work!

quote:Sounds like the conference needs a $50M investment, not $750M. Why do they need $700M if its just going to be split up and distributed to the schools? Can the schools not attract their own corporate sponsors to bring revenue?

Should of held their noses and took Taco tech and okie light(OU and Tejas were the key part of the deal).
They would still have Tejas and OU pumping in cash, while usc, ucla, etc struggle.

I mean the Pac-12 is mostly about the Olympic sports now anyway.

The Longhorns turned down the Pac because TEXAS wanted to keep the Longhorn Network and make more money in the Big 12 because the network TV deals were increased.

They still would have had problems with their regional network obsession

The Athletic Depts at USC and UCLA are in turmoil right now because they were caught up in the college admissions scandal. The Olympic sports were used as a backdoor to gain admission.
A bunch of coaches and administrators have resigned or been fired in the last couple of weeks.

Then those schools would lose all federal funding, so that's not going to happen.

The Pac10 wanted NOTHING to do with taco tech and okie light. The members said frick NO.
The longhorn network could of been worked with, there was plenty of time to figure that out.
Those 2 schools were lead anchors for OU and Tejas. But Pac10 doesn't have a lot of options.

In other words, by TEXAS waiting, they and Oklahoma, Oklahoma State and Texas Tech will end up getting anything they want to join, and in the meantime made more money than the Pac schools.
Sounds about right. Meanwhile, Missouri is still stinging from being turned down by the Big 10.
