If this was in anyway a good investment, wouldn't a company who might buy the content, like AT&T or Disney, invest. They would either get their money back when buying the TV rights or get paid by their competitor? Or am I missing something.

Oh it would be. But it’s hard to invest in something where the leader of the deal says “ok, the first thing we are going to do is give away 93% of your investment and then go from there, sounds good right?”
