Out of the three, Rice is by far the best academically. Not even close.
All of this hate for Tulane is interesting. I'm not sure if it's because of Nola or something else but Tulane is a very good school.
SMU is a fine school but definitely a cut below Tulane which is a cut below Rice.
In addition to general academics obviously there's a lot that goes into a decision like this. Likely major. Which one just feels better, where the kid thinks that they are going to end up geographically (Tulane has a good network in the northeast). Financial package, etc.

Rice or SMU. Either will give your kid a good shot to marry into money

The working world. I have worked with ivy league engineers in NYC holding the same position... I graduated from a 3rd tier state school.
I had a degree in Physics/Math from a small state college. My first professional job put me in a engineering group at Texas Instruments with grads from MIT, Rice, TAM, U. Houston, Duke, SMU and believe it or not Devry. We all had the same job title, and pay. The MIT guy was useless, everyone else was solid, the Rice grad fit the stereotype and was Asian, The Devry grad was our best software developer. We al worked for a manager with no college degree, but had 30 years experience and was brilliant.

There will be a ton of Tulane hate on this thread I'm sure, but any college is about what is right for the student. I loved my time and Tulane and living uptown.

Rice or SMU, Tulane is honestly overrated as an academic institution imo. I go to UNO, and some of my professors teach at Tulane as well and have said their is no difference in the curriculum rigor for the most part(accounting). One teaches grad level class at Tulane and said he HAS to give everyone at least a B- and it pisses him off to no end.

I doubt this unless it's night classes or university college that they're teaching at Tulane

Accounting is accounting, don't think there's going to be much variance in accounting curriculum between schools.

Tulane sexual assaults
All colleges have some scary assault numbers, but Tulane is one of the highest in the nation.

Rice is the better school.

But did you know unwanted kissing = sexual assault?

I personally draw a very different line between harassment and assault. This report is based on fondling and rape. I also know Tulane area social workers that confirm how high the rape numbers are there. All the candidates for student government last week had it as part of their platform. It's an ugly little fact, but it deserves consideration.

Ok. Here goes, "My kid got into Rice, SMU, and Tulane."

This is pretty fricking sad.

Rice is choice of those three.
SMU and Tulane wouldn't be on my radar. If you can get into Rice, why not UT in Austin over SMU and Tulane.
Hell go be an Aggie. A&M is better than SMU and Tulane and save $.
Yeah I have no idea why you're being downvoted. It's a very reasonable position, and I don't particularly like Texas or A&M.

Rice, I like the area better.
