I think we should send out pitchers on a 5 mile run and make them do push-ups after each outing. Ice obviously doesn’t work
Cardio is already a major part of recovery due to the healing properties of more blood flow.

Also, the Japanese league doesnt believe in rest or pitch counts like we do here, and their injury rate is far lower.

hmmm

Are japanese Pitchers ar Greater Risk for injury?
quote:

There are currenty seven Japanese-born pitchers on MLB rosters, with Hiroki Kuroda returning to Japan for 2015 and Daisuke Matsuzaka doing the same. Among the seven pitching in the MLB this upcoming season, the pending Darvish surgery means that four of the seven will have had Tommy John. That does not include Matsuzaka who also previously had the operation. Additionally, by adding Tanaka’s partially torn UCL and the fact that Koji Uehara has previously landed on the DL with an elbow sprain, a common precusor to Tommy John, six of the seven pitchers have had previous elbow issues. Although the sample size is extremely small, the fact that so many of these Japanese arms have had these issues is alarming. The question that follows is whether we can find something in these pitchers that might be the reason for the increased prevalence of injury.

quote:

The issue with pitch counts and innings, however, might not be at the professional level, but at the high school level. Marathon pitching performances are common at the high school level and the pitchers often gain fame as a result of their efforts. As this article discusses, many young Japanese talents will throw well over 100 pitches in a game and return the next day and throw over 100 again. Daisuke Matsuzaka reportedly threw 250 pitches over 17 innings in one day as an amateur. Japanese coaches argue that if mechanics are correct, throwing that many pitches does not put the player at greater risk. Yet these Japanese pitchers are breaking down more frequently than the typical MLB pitcher, and this could be a result of the incredible amount of stress put on their arms as young players.

Here's a medical study talking about japanese players having more shoulder issues and American players having more elbow issues. TFWIW

Throwing is not the issue. Not throwing properly, not warming up properly and not doing the adequate amount of training necessary to throw in games the duration of a college season is the cause for injuries. With a pattern of injuries on the pitching staff like LSU has I would be more likely to question Coach Dunn and the arm care/ throwing program he has put in place for the pitchers on staff.

No. They throw properly, warm up properly, stretch properly, take care of their arms properly. It’s because of throwing too much and not stretching properly before they get to college

Their injury rate isn’t lower. However a sizable part of their baseball culture thinks of getting Tommy John as a sign of weakness so the data isn’t out there on them because they don’t get the procedure

Ok so I missed some guys
You were probably referring to a post I made answering the Southern University troll when he asked me how many LSU pitchers have had TJ surgery in the last five years. He claimed it was a lot of pitchers.

I told him two, Doug Norman and Eric Walker.

That’s very likely where I got that number from because those were the two I was thinking of

Did you take your TD screen name from Chris Cotton pitching for LSU?

A UCL injury isn't something that is a slow burn where it's preceded by pain. It's typically one pitch and "POP" it's gone. So your posts have been a pipe dream with regard to this topic. They make no sense.

How can, in summer of 2011, you pretend that cotton was king, as in Chris cotton. I'm not as gullible as you. Its an obvious reference to American slavery. Its obvious that you are trying to provide cover for the username. Try your passive aggressive line on someone else. It doesnt even make sense.

Do good and seek justice. Dont be mad at me for caring about the young men playing at lsu, their arms, and the racist vibe given off by certain baseball posters.

I dont want to derail the thread, but my point cannot be refuted. Chris cotton was king in summer of 2011?

No.

He had pitched for 2 seasons for LSU by then.

Nope, I'm just curious about the origin of his screen name. That's why I asked him and not YOU.

You obviously don't know what "passive aggressive" means. You need to learn to use it correctly since you've used it incorrectly repeatedly. Let me guess, you read that term somewhere and you use it because you believe it makes you appear to be intelligent. It doesn't. I gives the exact opposite impression.

I want to see the pretzel you twist yourself into explaining to any reasonable person how Chris's cotton was king in summer 2011... did the poster have a time machine?
