Paper Tongues came out with “Ride to California”, and I saw them in front of like 50 people at the Varsity. fricking awesome show, and I’ve often wondered why they didn’t get bigger.

Nationally they are known as a one hit band, but the Toadies kick arse

old 97's never really had a hit but they are one of my favorite bands. maybe "murder or a heart attack"? that was in a movie.

Joe King Carrasco had a MTV hit called “Party Weekend in the mid 80s. His whole catalogue is fantastic.

But jokes on everyone because that dude wrote a shite ton of smash hits for other artists.

They had a few songs in the Break Up with Vince Vaughn and were in the movie

Toadies are great and should have been bigger than they were, same with Hum.

I loved most of that entire Rubberneck album

For sure. That Fastball album that blew up, All the Pain Money Can Buy is still a great listen start to finish, doesn't sound nearly as dated as most of their late 90s contemporaries.
Smash Mouth had some really interesting songs that were completely overlooked for their lowest common denominator material. Not a great band, just an interesting one.

I always enjoyed their radio singles. Hell, I love walking on the sun. Should I check out the fush you mang album?

I'd recommend it. My wife was a big ska fan as a teenager and it had its own little place in her rotation. "Padrino" is a silly little earworm that you can hear once and never forget.

Street Sweeper Social Club (Promenade): all the elements were there, including Galactic’s Stanton Moore on drums for the debut album. Just pretty much mediocre or worse outside of Promenade.
Box Car Racer (I Feel So): they fizzled out when it caused problems in Blink allegedly
Angels and Airwaves (The Adventure): Tom DeLonge went further and further into the deep end.

I don't blame them. Tom DeLonge, has such a unique voice, it sounds just like Blink 182. You wind up competing against yourself. If you are a member for Blink 182, you are pissed.
ETA: I guess +44 was a response to Angels and Airwaves?
