If you go into the marriage planning for the divorce then the marriage is destined to fail.

My wife makes good money, it all goes into one pot

Couples who split shite up and fight over money usually don’t last

Same. It works for us.

As long as you have open communication with your spouse regarding finances on a regular basis....who cares whether your accounts are joint or separate?

Thankfully that wasn’t the case with us.

I couldn’t watch someone work and not contribute.

That’s pretty shitty

I’m too lazy to deal with splitting stuff, it’s all our money anyway. Maybe if we got married later in life and each had our own money things would be different. But we started everything together from nothing.

We have separate spending accounts but the same amount gets direct deposited into each every two weeks.

I don't give a shite what she spends it on. It's just money for gas, lunch, Amazon or whatever. Makes it easier to keep up with the bill and savings accounts without wondering what that $75 was for. Everything else is joint. It works for us.

We have separate accounts.
My accounts pay some bills and everyday living while her account pays the mortgage and insurances

We have a joint account for rental income which goes into a money market account for additional savings.

Just when I think all of you are a bunch of asses, y’all redeem yourselves with stuff like this.

Very sweet

This. I've heard of a few couples that haven't been married very long talking about splitting bills and shite. I just dont understand it.

We pay our bills out of our shared account. The only separate accounts we have are 401k and IRA. Stuff that gets put straight in there from our employers.

We're a one account couple. That said, having an "offshore account" with direct deposits from your own paycheck is never a bad idea.

We were both in our 30s when we married. So we both had been living on our own for over a decade. (with our own retirement, etc).

Plus...we make around the same so there isn't a big difference in income.

There isn't a right or wrong way regarding this imo. It's whatever system works for the couple.

I don’t understand separate accounts either. Just seems like something to cause fights. Why would you need to keep them separate?

Team Mabry over here. We both contribute...she makes more money but I ensure I pay my half. I haven’t pocketed a VA disability check in a while, but my mortgage is paid on time.
