Why is trump backpedaling on Otto?

First trump said he believes kim knew nothing about the Otto situation and trump said he took it at his word.
Otto's parents call that a load of bs and say there's no way kim didn't know.
Now trump is saying the literal thing he said is not true.

Trump is in possibly the most important negotiation in decades. He probably shouldn’t have commented at all on Otto. Wasn’t the best move. To try to use this to vilify him, though is silly. Otto was taken under Obama and he did nothing. Liberals seem to only care when it can be used as a sword. Almost like liberals would rather a bad result in negotiations if it means they can blame trump. Sad.

It's a fairly complex situation don't you think? On one hand you have folks that claim Trump has one hand on the button and one foot on a banana peel.
We need to de-arm NK first and talk about retribution for Otto later. I would be upset if my son was killed my NK but I would think my kid was a GD idiot for going there as a journalist.

He’s not backpedaling. He clarifying his comments since his critics skewed them.

They are saying two different things, and just like that, they are implying Trump said Kim isn’t responsible.

Kim IS responsible. It was his prison camps that did it to Otto. It doesn’t mean he ordered it or even knew about.
At the end of the day, Kim is actually accountable for his people and for what his people do. Knowing or not.
