The city-parish estimates it would lose $48.3 million annually, or about one-fifth of its general fund.

Lol no shite. Any mayor would be against losing its largest tax base.

Mayor-President Broome Against St. George, Talks Money

Well...make a run at a Senate seat, bitch. You will not have to take the brunt.

Let’s talk about how the proposed City of St. George is just another form of legalized segregation.
Conservatives are the majority on the council. Literally they have 7 members which is what it takes to pass any measure. This St. George conversation is new white flight. When it seems that blacks are going to get a fair shake it’s somehow wrong. 98% of contracts in Baton Rouge go to white owned firms, not 60% not 70% not 80% but 98% of contracts go to companies that look like the majority on the council, not the majority of the city. Contracts to the tune of $300 million annually. Yet that doesn’t impact the income gap? That doesn’t impact crime? That doesn’t impact access to healthcare? It’s another form of taxation without representation.
Growth of black owned businesses shouldn’t be a problem, but a collective goal of everyone in this community because it creates jobs. Helps reduce crime, helps children have parents that can spend more time helping them with homework rather than working 3 or 4 jobs. Everything I’ve just said is rooted in data, including white flight when blacks begin to seek equity. So help me understand how creating a city 70% white helps us solve any of our collective issues that won’t go away if a new city is created?
Ive seen this posted by our gravy man. Is the bolded part true?

Well with St. George out of the way, plenty more contracts to Afro American businesses.
Although with the way contracts are given these days, that number seems way high anyway.

You know, mayor, it didn't have to come to this. The St. George folks offered an olive branch 2 years ago. All they wanted was for the EBR school system to build another high school and a few more middle and primary schools out on that side of the parish, and they told them to pound sand. You, and people like you, are why the city is in this mess. Rather than try to compromise, you spearheaded efforts to spike the football in their faces and ensure they wouldn't be allowed to try again. Well, you reap what you sow.

Not many hair and nail contacts out there.

Article says net loss is more like 25 million as they would not have to provide certain services to the area.
Still... if St. George residents are paying 25 million more than they are getting a year... that right there is all the more reason to break away.

When a population base feels that they aren’t receiving proper compensation in lieu of their taxes, of course they will rebel.
Honestly, if they would been given the school district/control of the school system that they asked for initially, this wouldn’t be happening.

Let talk about how St George isn't legalized segregation:
Segregation gave governments the legal method of prohibiting blacks and other minorities from living in certain areas.
Are there any St George stipulations disallowing blacks and other minorities from living in city boundaries?
I didn't think so.

And who's problem is that, dumbass? You can't properly allocate funds now, but you want to bitch and complain that we want to break away from your stupid arse because you'll be losing money? can't have your cake and eat it too you ignorant frick.
and to be totally honest, i really don't care about north baton rouge. nuke the fricking place for all i care. is it our problem they want to keep killing each other? no. is it our problem they want to sell drugs around their schools and businesses? no. is it our problem they're poor because they have zero education and rather gang bang and work at the local convenience store? no.
get over yourself broome. no one feels sorry for you and now that youre not getting what you want, you want to cry for help? nope. not how any of this works. go ask your friendly north baton rouge neighbors who love you so much. go take their non existent money and watch how many of them love you so graciously.
