The Republican Party scored two big upsets in Connecticut on Tuesday, flipping a district under Democratic control for roughly a quarter-century.

Gennaro Bizzarro defeated Democrat Rick Lopes in Senate District 6, 53.01% to 43.69%. In 2016, Hillary Clinton carried the district against Donald Trump by 26 points.

Meanwhile, Republican Joseph Zullo defeated Democrat Josh Balter in Assembly District 99 by a margin of 51.44% to 43.18%.

“While turnout was low, those are swings that catch our eye over here,” Rich Baris, the Director of PPD’s Election Projection Model said. “We’re looking at margins and at demographics. Tonight was not the first warning sign for Democrats heading into 2020.”

On February 19, Democrat Ibraheem S. Samirah won the special election in Northern Virginia for House of Delegates District 86, but the vote share swung Republican by double-digits.

Mr. Samirah was the first Democrat to fail to crack the 60-percent threshold in the deeply Democratic district since 2015.

The Republican gains in Connecticut and NoVa followed a Democratic loss in Minnesota Senate District 11. The special election on February 5 saw a 16-point swing to Republicans.

History says we'll win the House back and an incumbent POTUS w/ a strong economy never loses.

Let's not start sucking each other's dicks quite yet

Plus

There are some extra votes that I am sure will be found that will change this reault.

Difficult to draw definitive conclusions without turnout (versus historical turnout). Superficially, though, this looks bad for Dems - not the losses (which happen), but 8 and 10 point losses in historical Dem strongholds are nothing to take lightly on that side.

(ETA: And it speaks well of Republican organizations in deeply blue CT.)

So I figured after just reading for a few months I would hop in and comment about my home state as my forst post. Connecticut made progress this past governors election towards not going as far left as our neighboring states. Granted a liberal was still able to win (Ned Lamont, who while is a liberal is not as lock and step with national democrats as his predecessor Malloy was,) it was a lot closer than was anticipated. It will be difficult to unseat the senators from this state as 3 cities basically determine the winner and places like New Haven, Bridgeport and Hartford are not exactly conservative hot beds. Local elections are a great first step towards getting morons like Da Nang out of office once and for all.

So, based Minnesota is waking up and rebelling against what was almost certainly future Sharia law?

Maybe there's hope.

As a north Louisianian, this reminds me of all the times south Louisianians kept electing Edwin Edwards governor.

BTW, welcome to the board.
