It’s historic. Its a grand spectacle. Its music and dancing “reveling”. It’s fun for all ages. It’s free.

Let’s bash it and call it stupid. Let’s all sit at home and watch tv and stare at our phones.

I prolly had 100 people through my place last year. All friends and family and friends of friends.

We drank, we ate, we enjoyed. Met some incredibly cool people, including a lesbian who markets condoms.

Take your burdens to the Mardi Gras
Let the music wash your soul

I’ll always love it.

I usually take a trip out of state during Mardi Gras. I’ve never understood the desire to go out into a drunken mob to catch worthless plastic beads.

I loved MG when I was a little kid. I couldn't care less about it now.

I'm 27 as well. I still love Mardi Gras, but I never go downtown. I stick to my spot on Napoleon and watch the uptown parades and suck down oysters at Superior Seafood. Last year was the first year no one crashed with me and I just got to enjoy it my own way and not have to cater to tourists. Makes it much better.

This was me at your age. I've always loved it, and love it even more now that my daughter is really enjoying it.

Mardi Gras season and Parades are overrated if you are older than a 3rd grader.

Bourbon Street on Mardi Gras is overrated if you've been once before or are over the age of 23.

For an adult these are things to do ONCE in your life. The idiots that rope off and stake out claims to portions of the median in mid-city are true mongoloids. Full blown Fleurty Girl wearing, Drew Brees jersey wearing, fleur de lis neck or calf tatt sporting retards. Naturally nawlins, the cultural sophistication of a pre-schooler.

Well, we now know you're clueless about anything involving Mardi Gras.

seems like it’s all a matter of ones perspective.

If you want to participate, then participate.

If you think it’s overrated, don’t go.

This type of thread is stupid. Everything is overrated if you don’t enjoy it- New Year’s Eve, the Super Bowl, LSU football, marriage, kids...

What’s the point of this thread? Are you looking for affirmation of your opinion? Who cares? Don’t partake if you don’t enjoy it.
Or do partake, if you find it fun. But trying to get likeminded people to agree with you on something as stupid as this is a waste of time. Go about your day and let those who enjoy it, enjoy

It's the case for a lot of things.

Just because you don't want to catch anything doesn't mean you can't go out and have a good time.

That's all it is: thousands of people just having a good time.

I used to really like Mardi Gras as a child because of the random toys and stuff people would throw from the floats, liked it even more as a 16 year old because of how easy it was to get drunk and high with my friends.

I'm sure it's been said somewhere in the six pages before my post, but Mardi Gras is awesome again once your kids get into it. I have a three year old who just wants to run around, but my five year old absolutely loves it.

He spent about half the time yesterday in the ladders with four or five of his buddies and then the other half in the street playing football.

All the while, I got to sit there and people watch while I was drinking. No complaints for me, even if it's something that can be easy to stress about.

Yep. I've had some great memories with my kids doing just this. My son is now 13 and still begs me to take him to every parade possible. Throwing the ball with him then watching him and his friends/cousins when he was younger was always a great time.

I love visiting with friends, family, and neighbors out on the route and going to house parties before or after the parade.

Watching my kid have fun this past weekend and next weekend watching her ride on the Queen’s float is many things, but not overrated. NOLA isn’t for you. Don’t come.

It's also awesome as an adult if you ride. You feel like a rockstar.

Mardi Gras is really making a conscious decision to hang out in way-too-close-proximity with the most physically repulsive people in your community. If you have some private balcony or party I get it. If you are in a bleacher or on the side of the road you are just way too easily entertained imho. I felt that was as a little kid too, like wtf is this crap? I never got it.

Yep. When you turn onto St. Charles on the uptown route and the crowd is going nuts, it's a damn awesome feeling.
Seeing the kids get so excited when you throw them a football or stuffed animal over and over for four hours is good stuff.
