re: Why not intentionally miss the FT with 0.6 left on the clock?

You can make an argument for making the free throw, but potentially fouling on the rebound or the heave isn’t part of it. You wouldn’t put anyone under in order to avoid that.
There would be no guys on the line so the foul possibility would be zero.

The only thing I can come up with is he wanted the 2 pt lead in case of some bullshite foul call on us on the last play..In which they could have tied it up with 2 made free throws.

They would have taken timeout as soon as he rebounded and then you have to trust those refs to know how much time to take off the clock. I’d rather just get another point and not trust those idiots to know the rules
How this has 24 upvotes is baffling. This is retarded.

That’s what I said. Someone earlier in the thread seems to think a foul on the miss would have been a possibility.

Yes agree 100%%%%%%%% Im pretty sure the refs know the rules inside and out.

That was my thought as well. I assumed it would be a 3 point try either way.

It is absolutely part of the argument. This seems fairly clear to me.
Naz is kind of a spaz (sorry Naz). I could very easily see him accidentally running into somebody or Grant Williams flopping his way into free throws before the heave or while the ball is in the air. And if that happens I want to be up 2.
Wade apparently agrees with me.
ETA: I’m not saying we might have fouled on the free throw rebound. Just the heave.

My mistake, I thought you meant on the free throw rebound or a heave from under their goal on the miss.

We won the game so I’m good with all of it... making the free throw led to a way better look than many would have thought. As for the rants reaction to an attempted missed free throw that did not hit the rim, I’m trying to imagine that working out any worse than the look they got and I’m not seeing it.

clock starts on the rebound and they'd have to heave a full court shot to win it vs. williams not having a great look but had a chance to send to 2nd overtime on a catch and shoot from 18 feet away.
It's all about whether there is time for a catch and a shoot after the timeout Tennessee would have called.
If you think they could have taken the timeout in .3 seconds or less, making it was the right call.

No time off the clock. We’re up one. That shot that was barely missed would have been to win the game, compared to tie. Losing is worse than a second overtime, correct?
The inbound pass should have been defended better.

Off ball foul puts Tenn at line as we were in the bonus>

There are sound arguments to be made for making or missing the FT. People criticizing Wade are stupid, especially considering his strategy worked

Wade's strategy not only worked...it displayed how bad the alternative strategy could have been.

make it a 2 pt game and cover your arse if the refs find a way to call another foul in 0.6 seconds.

shite. The way that game was being officiated both ways, they may have added more than .6 seconds to the clock after the rebound.

True, but you play to win, make the other guy beat you and eliminate chances of you beating yourself.
I understand why some think missing would have been better, but I really don't see it would give you any advantage. Regardless it would take a desperation heave to win.
With the shitty officiating, take whatever you can get.
