She only had to be tricked at 12. By 13 she had adopted the terminology as the framework for her abuse, but I don't really think she literally believed it.
Also, I'm 99% sure it wasn't "aliens" that spoke to her but was instead "angels", in fitting with LDS cosmology. The Mormon angle was HUGE with this thing but wasn't talked about at all in the doc.
If you strip away the aliens part, this is only mildly dissimilar from the child brides of Mormon cults.

Oh, I must not have been clear. I think they outright lied to downplay the LDS stuff. There was (and is) such a huge culture of protecting the church in the public eye that I think they changed or omitted a lot more relevant bits.

She used to always leave us in the car with the windows down while she would grocery shop. Like we'd sit out in the car for 30-45 minutes, unsupervised. And we wouldn't be the only kids out there. Crazy to think about now.

I love how a bunch of grown men are arguing it’s ridiuclous a 12 year old girl, who’d been getting worked on for YEARS for that precise moment, would fall for the story. As if anyone in here had anything close to a situation like that at 12 years old, 30-40 years ago...

At 12 I thought Rosemary’s Baby was almost a documentary and the Bigfoot stories in mens’ magazines like Argosy were true fact.
If an adult conman was given access to me at that age he’d have me raising money to pay the angels to help keep the Loch Ness Monster free from harm.
