Flirt with disaster long enough

This is a good LSU team and things are certainly looking up for future seasons, but pump the breaks. We have managed to convince ourselves that this is an elite team the last several weeks (myself included), but it just isn’t the case.
Yes this team is tied for first in the SEC, yes this team is 21-5 and yes this team can beat anyone. That said, take a look at the schedule.
- 4 OT games in conference play
- Only 4 conference double digit wins out of 14 games
- Consistent slow starts and miraculous comebacks
This team is mere points away from being a middle of the pack bubble team. In November we were just hoping to get in the tournament and win a game or two. We were talking about how awesome it would be to make the Sweet 16 and how much of a success that would be. Now we’ve been seeing daily threads about how we could be a 1/2/3 seed.
This team has been fun to watch and I’m hoping for continued success, but I’m reminding myself that you don’t build a power overnight. I’m also remembering that you don’t have to be elite to make a deep run.

Bub,
Conference play comes down to close games, sure we've gotten lucky and tonight we didn't. Uk and Tennessee could say the same things as this.

It was one conference loss in OT. Nothing has changed at all. If people seriously thought that LSU was going to win out then that's where the issue is, not losing a game.

So if we beat Tenn, are we elite then? Will you come back and start a new thread?

I agree with everything but this team is also only 4 points away from being undefeated in conference. A team that’s been great at the free throw line and was 57% in regulation against Florida and missed a few late against Arkansas that would’ve won the game.

I've been puzzled by this for weeks. LSU seems to like starting a game by having the opponent come out more aggressive, instead of LSU coming out and attacking.
It says something about how good the team is, that they consistently allow opponents to take early leads and still have only 2 conference losses. Imagine the record if they came out inspired from the tip.
Edit: I have to qualify this because LSU has come out on fire, like in the Miss St game, then went to sleep and allowed a 17 point run by State and were down 8 at the half. So technically they have been hustling at the start of some games, then lost that edge, then regained it in the 2nd half.

I think you have to get use to being good. This is only the first year - the wake-up year. Hang in there. It's a process. Next year, they will really shine.

How does that compare to the other top teams in the SEC and ACC?

Consistent slow starts and miraculous comebacks
Only 1 miraculous comeback (Missouri)
We've had a lot more games where we gave up big leads

I love how LSU "fans" discredit their own teams
By now your team is what your record says it is
We are also mere points away from being undefeated in conf play and having 2 more wins over top 15 teams in FSU, and Houston

You don't know college basketball if you think this team has flirted with disaster.
Look at Tenn. vs. Vandy in both games year. More close games than you can imagine.

Imagine how Kentucky felt after losing to LSU.... yea, kind of like LSU losing to Florida last night ...only difference was LSU hadn’t beaten Kentucky in Rupp Arena since 1980....the ole saying, you win some you are suppose to lose and lose some you are suppose to win... I’m pretty sure some if not most here that played sports have had that happened to them also...I for one have....
