Dynamite drop in Monty. I can see those broadcast lessons are really paying off.

Depending on Hess we have the potential to have a solid weekend rotation. I would say if Hess dominates we will be hard to beat come SEC play.
It’s a midweek early cold windy game don’t judge anything on this game.

If the two freshmen keep it up.. we have to go
Marceaux
Hill
Walker
We can’t keep playing guessing games on which hess will show up

Surprising with Dunn being a former big league coach he hasn’t closed Hess again. Dude is a big league closer.

Hess abs the freshman arms staying healthy are the biggest question

What’s the timeline on Gilbert’s return?
Posted on 2/19/19 at 7:04 pm to BallChamp00
So far and it's super early we seem to be pretty deep with pitching. Perhaps some very quality arms that could start but will be middle innings and set up guys. Great start to the young season though.

At this point what the hell do you do with Hess? He's most definitely not a starter, he's most definitely not a closer. You can probably stick him somewhere in the bullpen I suppose, but I'm not sure we should be giving him a large pitching role for this team moving forward.

Well you just showed your ignorance.

So you’re saying Hess is a mop up man? Or a midweek starter ? Cmon man...

Hess is failing because he’s pitching poorly. You don’t fix that by changing his role; he has to start pitching better and with more consistency. And, btw, are you going to remove Peterson from closing to put Hess there? No, thank you.
Give Hess two or three more starts to see what happens. Don’t get hung up onn winning meaningless regular season games.

I agree. If Peterson wants to remain at closer, let Hess start mid-week games until such time as he either figures it out or confirms that he is the starter we saw last year.
If that fails, maybe middle relief.
You can't be a Friday night guy and only show up 2 out of every 5 starts.

Changing his role can very much affect his performance. See his stats from 2017 out of the pen versus his stats from last year as a starter, out of necessity.
No you dont move Peterson if he keeps throwing like he is. Hess would be a perfect setup man to Peterson.

to be a closer - you have to be ready to go & hess has had trouble starting fast

You’re assuming the dropoff was due to a change in role. Hess is getting in trouble in his first inning. It’s not like guys are figuring him out the third time through. Explain how a closer can be effective when he gives up runs in his first inning.

Starting pitching and relief pitching are two completely different mindsets, ask anyone who has ever pitched. Hess is high energy and high effort in his pitching style and can be way more consistent out of the pen, and not worry about conserving energy. See 2017. Hes not ever going to be Alex Lange or Aaron Nola on Friday night, even if he does have a quality start here and there.

I think he needs to move into either the Saturday or Sunday role. He’s got too much pressure on him being labeled as the “ace” and coming out on Fridays to start off the series. His nerves are all over the place. Maybe a different starting role will calm him down a bit and he can focus more on his pitches
