Long but fascinating article on ESPN.com this morning about how Donaghy fixed the games. LINK

Referees never let human compulsions into their calling of games though, so I'm told.

Thanks for linking it.

This is ESPN's feeble attempt to try and convince fans and viewers that Donaghy was an isolated incident, a true outlier. Couldn't be further from the truth.

Fouls called in the third quarter... lots and lots of other possessions to make what he did irrelevant.
Players determine the outcome of games. Not refs.

Unfortunately, referees are humans. Given that, there is to be expected some officiating error in games. Surely, these missed calls or strictly missed calls, and there are no other outside influences for these missed calls, right?

I see Boom is doing his Skip Bayless hot take routine, but the most interesting part of this article to me is how David Stern swept this under the rug by derailing the FBI investigation into other refs by leaking it to the media and then having his hot shot lawyer buddy steer the “independent” investigation to find no fixing
As always, David Stern is a fricking gangster

This could have been a good thread because the subject matter is highly interesting and something that doesn't get exposed very often.
Instead, it's ruined by a weirdo who doesn't know much about the actual subject at hand.

I'm waiting for the how the NFL fixed games story.

I’m just thankful he’s the only dishonest man to take advantage of such an obviously game-able system.

I don’t think Donaghy was alone. But there were games in the past so suspect with Salvatore, Crawford and the ageless wonder - Dick Bavetta. Seemed like entertainment and not a sport.

they rigged that Lakers-Kings playoff game real good

What ever happened to Jack Concannon? I can't imagine he was very happy when Donaghy told him that he could no longer place bets with him.

Its a wonder that this guy is still alive and no one has whacked him yet.

Haven't read any of this but is there any legit new info here?
