Just as I suspected. A political whore with no convictions except who pays you the most.

What is 1000 a month do?
You can’t live on 1000 a month. What the frick is 1000 a month do when that’s not even one week’s pay. 1000 a month won’t pay my grocery bill.
You want to see a fricking blood bath, lay off millions of men. Lay off millions of white men and tell them they aren’t qualified to receive benefits because they are the wrong color and they can use their white privilege to feed their family.

I heard about him on a podcast and read his book. I think the issue is it might be worth a consideration if we scrapped all social programs and replaced it with UBI but the left will soon want UBI plus, which will result in this being a massive expansion of our already unaffordable social welfare system in this country.

Plus giving certain populations just enough to meet basic needs, or the ability to only need to work minimum hours to meet those needs, really is an incentive not to work. I don't think we need anymore of that. But Silicon Valley's move to automate anything it can is going to have a huge impact on labor and that does need to be considered.

A universial Basic income is an almost certain eventuality. But we are realistically at least 40-50 years away from that. It makes sense to have a UBI when we reach a point, where there just isn't that much work to be done by humans. We are still far away from that.

We've heard this before. Humanity adapts. Every new generation of advancements creates as many jobs as it takes away

As Trump claimed. More people employed now than any time in our history.

So seems we are able to adapt well.

Let's not get too carried away with the more people employed now than anytime in history. That's primarily due to the fact that there are more people alive than at any point in history.

Or the robots just do those new jobs. I don’t understand why people don’t understand that we’re not replacing one product with another, we’re replacing human capital.

UBI is interesting until you actually interact with our massive underclass

There would be riots within months as that $1000 would get spent in days

UBI may be the answer but people supporting need to understand that it will create a permanent underclass and wealth gap. If automation does take a significant portion of no-skill/low-skill jobs, it’s not like you can retrain those folks for a competitive service economy in a post-industrial world.

People need to understand the threat isn’t just to low skill/no skill jobs. From accounting to marketing to legal to investments to procurement and yes logistics you are all on the chopping block. You aren’t as efficient, you cost more and you can be replaced or “augmented” to the point we need way fewer of you..

The question everyone needs to think really hard about is this: Who does automation, robots, and AI benefit?

If only there were a place one could take ENTRY LEVEL economics classes and learn the answer to such an elementary question
