I ran across these renderings while looking into the new Google building (under construction) - some tall ones going up.

Amazing transformation coming... LINK

The Google building is "Block 185".

It was just Frost tower about 6-7 years ago.

Now it's a lot of high rise condos and hotels.

Fun fact about the Austin skyline I learned on a Segway tour:

That one goofy building was designed by a Rice alum to look like an owl, since Rice and UT used to be big rivals, he put an owl in downtown Austin

Gonna suck when they have to tear them all down when Austin passes a new green deal.

I guess with the internet everyone needs to get in their car and drive in gridlock to the same centralized location to sit at a desk or something.

Sad that people have to move to Texas just to build a building

Block 185; 589 ft / 35 floors

17 ft per floor?? Swanky...

Progression aside...

I almost find it sad. Austin is definitely not what it used to be. My mom went to UT way back in the day. She says it’s not even the same city to her (not in a good or bad way, just as an observation).

There’s growth in SA, Houston, and Dallas...but I don’t see the identity of those places changing. In Austin...I see it as a totally different place than when I was a kid 20 years ago.

Austin is no Dallas but better than Houston at least.
