that ball is still on the way up. None of the qualifiers for defensive goaltending would apply to that shot.
What?
I'll say it again - nothing Kentucky did qualifies as basker interference or goaltending. Read the rules...
quote:
Basket interference occurs when a player:
1. Touches the ball or any part of the basket while the ball is on or within
the basket;
2. Touches the ball while any part of it is within the cylinder that has the
ring as its lower base;
3. Reaches through the basket from below and touches the ball before it
enters the cylinder;
4. Pulls down a movable ring so that it contacts the ball before the ring
returns to its original position, and
5. Causes the basket or backboard to vibrate when the ball is on or within
the basket or the backboard and/or is on or in the cylinder.
b. The cylinder is the imaginary geometric figure that has the ring as its base
and is formed by the upward extension of that ring.
c. The ball shall be considered to be within the basket when any part of the
ball is below the cylinder and the level of the ring.
d. A player may have a hand legally in contact with the ball, when this
contact continues after the ball enters the cylinder or when, during such
action, the player touches or grabs the basket.
Tell me which rule was violated?

Fwiw, people are using some hybrid rules posted on reddit in this thread. I posted, verbatim, from the ncaa rulebook.

You’re serious?

This is why sports fans can’t be taken seriously. Biased as hell. I just witnessed LSU fans whine about refs for 2 hours, then deny an offensive interference that was clearly interference, now call out Kentucky goaltending that by rule may not be goaltending. Sports fans are fricking crazy.

The slap of the backboard violates this rule. The ball was in contact with the backboard when it occurred and the movement of the board is obvious from the video replay.

You can't slap the backboard while the ball is on it, any other questions?

Yes.

They hit the rim before the ball even hit off the glass. To argue the backboard or basket was shaking by the time the ball hit it is as petty as Kentucky fans trying to argue it was basket interference on LSU.
Both fanbase are trying to argue the letter of the law when the intent was never violated.

And when it's not on it and still on the way up?

ESPN final play
One kentucky player slaps the backboard and one grabs the rim as the ball comes off the backboard. By that rule it's interference.

#5 What part of causes the backboard to vibrate confuses anyone? Backboard was shaking after they slapped it. We would have still won EVEN if there was a review. TIGERS!

Just stop. This makes absolutely no sense.
Slapping the backboard during a shot is not legal. End of story.

How cute...index card guy from the Cowboys - Raiders game wants to weight in on a controversial ref's decision.
Let's just bring in Bill Vinovich to say that he didn't see the UK player put his hand up through the net, touch the rim and potentially alter the bounce of the shot before the tip, so that we can complete the cycle.

I'm interpreting "to vibrate when" to mean: the goal was still vibrating when the ball got to the goal.

Um. Yes. Yes it was. Watch the replay. Look at the still shots. His hand was in contact with the backboard as the ball bounced high off the backboard. The video clearly shows the goal move from the contact. This isn’t even debatable.
