Oh, the rule that requires the ball to be on the backboard or within the cylinder to be a violation? That rule?

100% goal tending

No, I just watched it in slow motion. Ball hit the rim and whoever it was that was in your words "100 goal tending" hit it to the glass and it bounced off there into the net for the 2 points.

Even Dickie and friend said it wasn't goal tending after they watched the replay.

I'm interpreting "to vibrate when" to mean: the goal was still vibrating when the ball got to the goal.

I interpret it to be causing the vibration after the ball touches the backboard or is on the cylinder.

How many times have we see guys whiff on reverse layups only to catch the backboard? And how many times do they call goaltending?

ETA - which goes back to my point about Kentucky fans bitching - arguing the letter of the rule is asinine when the spirit of the rule and how it's interpreted in real games is completely different.

Yes. The rule that was violated on that shot. That one.

So just to clarify, you’re interpreting the rule as the goal has to begin to vibrate simultaneously with the ball touching the backboard/rim, but if it the vibration was caused before the ball hit the backboard/rim, it’s legal?

It's like everyone just ignores the second part of that rule...

If you cause it to vibrate before the ball hits the backboard, no violation occurred. Thats the way it's officiated every day across all leagues.

I'm all for rubbing it in Kentucky's face, but this whole thread is dumb.

It was a questionable call but not reviewable. I'll take it.

So you hit the rim and backboard while the ball is on the way to the goal and the backboard and goal are still moving when the ball contacts the backboard and rim and you're position is it is not interference?

Damn right. LSU was the better team, that's undeniable.

Dude. Are you even watching the video? He hit the backboard as the ball came in contact with the board. Simultaneous. I’m not sure why you refuse to admit this was the case. It’s very clear from the replay.

I think you’ll find the reason everyone is arguing about interference is the same reason you’re contending we don’t argue about it. I agree the spirit of the rule isn’t broken, but when the letter of the rule is being argued all over social media and ESPN, people respond in kind. That’s why LSU is dissecting the letter of the interference rule, just as ESPN is dissecting the letter of the goaltending rule.

Just to Clarify.....THIS IS GOALTENDING
How is this goaltending or interference? (Asking for a friend). Replay: LINK

"Violations- Goaltending. (Rule 9-17.5). When the ball contacts the backboard and any part of the ball is above the rim on a field goal attempt, it is considered to be on its downward flight. In such case, it is goaltending when the ball is touched by a player as long as it has a possibility of entering the basket."

"In basketball, basket interference is the violation of (a) touching the ball or any part of the basket while the ball is on the rim of the basket, (b) touching the ball when it is within the cylinder extending upwards from the rim, (c) reaching up through the basket from below and touching the ball, whether it is inside or outside the cylinder, or (d) pulling down on the rim of the basket so that it contacts the ball before returning to its original position."

When Bigby-Williams tipped the ball in, it had hit the rim and was going up, not into the net.

Not goaltending.

I saw the video. I thought the slap was slightly before the ball hits the backboard.

I'd like someone to link to a goaltending call resulting from slapping the backboard before the ball hits the backboard. Hell, I'd like to see a goaltending call from slapping the backboard after the ball hits the backboard. I seriously can't recall it happening unless the ball or rim are hit.

It never left the cylinder. We got lucky. It happens.

Unfortunately you don’t show the side view where the ball is actually partially below the rim and falling away.
