When you take the sim with you on travel, do you throw it in a spare phone and hotspot?

Also, what are your pings when you speedtest?

The SIM card never leaves the Nighthawk router. It stays in there. I have a power inverter in my vehicle, which is what I plug the Nighthawk and one of the Google Mesh pucks into.

I just did a Speedtest and my ping was at 73. I also just looked through my results of various speedtests.....they range anywhere from 52-81.

Did any of y’all have trouble getting the nighthawk router to recognize the SIM card you bought? Mine won’t recognize it for some reason. I bought a refurbished Nighthawk on EBay. Going to try a new SIM card tomorrow, if that one doesn’t work then will return that Nighthawk and get a new one.

Did you actually get the guy on the eBay auction to transfer the service over into your name? You'll need to give him the sim card # (has to be a brand new never used SIM card), and the IMEI # of the hotspot. He transfers service over to you and the SIM# and hotspot IMEI number are linked together. After he does that, he'll send you a message on eBay letting you know it's transferred over, then you just pop your SIM in the Nighthawk and away you go....

It's pretty simple.

Damn, that's a bummer. Makes it fairly unusable for me then. I'm really tempted to carry around my old nexus 5x to use as a hotspot with this sim though for my Surface Pro and laptop

Does the billing attach on to the account that I already have with ATT, or is it billed separately? Thanks for all of the info, all of my stuff is in the mail, can't wait.

Separate. This is a stand alone data account that can't be tied/tethered to anything else AT&T offers.

So should I buy the nighthawk and sim before buying the account from the eBay guy? This sounds amazing because I live in the middle of nowhere with only 15 mbps DSL, but theres an AT&T cell tower just a mile away.

Doesn't matter, I ordered off of ebay and talked to the guy first.

I got a new nighthawk router off of EBAY, and this time it worked fine! The used nighthawk router I bought the first time must have been defective. Thanks everyone, can't wait to call Frontier and disconnect my crappy internet with them!

Just got mine setup today. Works great

just an FYI you do not need to buy the account from the guy on eBay. You can fully set this thing up by going to www.att.com/ipadlanding. You will need an IMEI number from an iPad that supports LTE and the SIM card number. If you don’t have an iPad with LTE just find a pic of one on eBay with the IMEI number this is only used for activation. VERY IMPORTANT: Make sure it is a model that supports LTE. If you use a 1st gen iPad that only supports 4G then the sim will only ever get 4G.

It only take 5 minutes to setup so you can save you $30 to the eBay guy.

Same. Just did that process yesterday and it is working very well so far. Getting 50+ mbps vs 8 mbps with the old DSL. Very happy so far, just have to wait and see if I get throttled after 22 gigs of use.

You won't be throttled. After you get to 22GB, you might at times (during heavy network congestion) be de-prioritized (not throttled), but you will still be plenty fast enough to stream HD movies.

I've had this service for close to eight months now, and I get to 22GB within the first few days. I can't tell a difference in DL speeds pre-22 GB and post-22 GB.

Just to ensure I'm fully understanding you...you need to initially put in the IMEI number of the iPad, and then after it's active you will transfer the service over to the Nighthawk IMEI number?

The Nighthawk IMEI is not needed. You just need to give AT&T an IMEI for an LTE iPad (as well as your new SIM card number) when you sign up for the service. After you sign up and pay, you pop the SIM card into the Nighthawk and you’re good to go.

That’s good info. That’ll save some people $30, since the guy on eBay isn’t needed, IF you have an iPad with the AT&T cell service option. I don’t have an iPad with the cell service option. My iPad is Wifi only. I’d still need the guy to sign me up.

I used an IMEI generator for that, generated an IMEI for an LTE iPad. I had to try a few different generated IMEIs before I got a number that it would take.

You don’t need that just search on eBay in the pictures for an IMEI for an iPad that has LTE. It’s super easy and once the SIM card is actives just pop it into the nighthawk.
