Why is low brow humor so loved and accepted in the MCU, but reviled with The Last Jedi

So this is something I've been discussing with friends. I see posters on here just rave about every MCU film (OMG, it so funny) then turn around and just bash TLJ for "too many cheap jokes." Why the double standard? It’s not like Star Wars are some serious films made for adults. Lucas always said the films were made for kids. Both of these franchises were really made for kids.

Because we had the original trilogy that set the tone and fans wanted a continuation of that world, not the crap that was in TLJ

The OT was full of cheap jokes too. And don't get me started on the prequels

There's a difference between funny moments and characters making awkward, out of place jokes like they're Tony Stark.

In the original trilogy we have multiple limbs getting cut off, Han shooting first, a vision of a disembodied head, scary monsters trying to kill people, incest, and sex slavery among other things. But hey Jar Jar stepped in poop that one time.

Eh, the OT is definitely kid friendly. You're making it sound like Game of Thrones.

Because it's been funny in the MCU. It wasn't funny in TLJ. It was mostly lame.

I don't think you understand what "low brow humor" is. The quippy, witty humor of the MCU is far from low brow.

Because MCU and Star Wars are different. MCU is mainly targeted at children and man children, so it's accepted. Star Wars has a fan base of children and adults, while some humor is appropriate (like Han Solo provided in the original trilogy), the crap we got in TLJ wasn't (Luke's weird green milk, Rose as a character, etc).

There are no poop and fart jokes in the MCU.

Because MCU gets it to the point with not letting it clash with the rest of the film. The Yo Momma Joke start? And BB-8 was every bit as obnoxious as Jar Jar.

And then in the end, after 99% of their people were wiped out by the First Order, they are cheering and cracking jokes on the Millennium Falcon? It would be if at the end of Infinity War they just go in Wakanda and start playing with the gadgets laughing just as half the universe was wiped out.

I watched some of Thor Ragnorok this weekend. It was nothing but silly jokes.

Ragnarok is an outlier in the MCU. GOTG and Ant Man have lighter tones but they aren't full blown comedy like Ragnarok.

If it works for you, great. I thought it was lame AF.

So? Thor is inherently ridiculous. It works with him.

It works for a lot of people. You're the outlier here, not me.

To be fair, the survivors did enjoy a surplus of gadgets at that moment.

Because the original trilogy was established as a serious one, not one that has slapstick humor and your mama jokes.

So the OT had mostly WWII pilot chatter.

We got pretty similar in the PT minus some Anakin and Obiwan broing out here and there.

Rogue One WWII chatter

TLJ- "Your mama" then space afterburners.

It was a bad scene.
