Why is the Western Conference so much better in the NBA?

It's been like this for decades. Is it better management, more attractive warm weather cities for free agents?

Players didn't want to be in the East with zero chance of making the finals so they went west.

You must be a LeBron lover. That argument makes no sense. If it were true, then wouldn't the East be stacked because no one has beaten the warriors in 5 years?

The west was better before Lebron even got to the league

Nah.

1. There's no shame in losing to a team like that(Lebron is the only player ever who could do it). It's pretty bad when entire organizations can't beat 1 guy, though.

2. The Warriors will eventually break up. Lebron was damn near a decade long nightmare.

Better owners/front offices + Lakers being a destination franchise

Post Jordan era the Spurs, Lakers, Nash era Suns, Mavs, Rockets, Clippers, Kings, Warriors, Blazers, Memphis, OKC have all had good stretches of being good to great teams

Nuggets and Jazz have had some good teams as well (and the CP3 era Hornets were pretty good for a bit)

Pretty remarkable.

Just as many teams from the East make the finals as the West

The west is 21-18 in the finals since 1980

The West didn’t start dominating the regular season 8 years ago. The OP mentioned decades. Also what players went West in the last 8 years?

Owners are good when the players are good. Sarver wasn't considered a disaster when he had Nash and Amare. Clippers became not terrible under Sterling, who never stopped being terrible.
