I have to fly to Charleston SC in May and want to boil for friends. I do not think it should be difficult to get live crawfish, but I’d hate to make my friend buy all the gear. Anybody know if that’s possible, or how to get the supplies for a temporary basis? Thnx

I would think you could fedex there and back for cheaper? Just pickup propane locally

Surely you can find somebody up there that you can borrow/rent from? I kind of doubt you’ll be able to find a rental business that would have it, but just start putting some feelers out on Facebook and see what happens. Hell, there’s probably somebody on this board that can hook you up with somebody up there

I’d just pack the burner in a box and check/carry on as luggage. A pot should be easy enough to secure when down there.

You will find they may have boiled a few pots of crabs and shrimp in that area before and everything you need is widely available.

If you dont want to ship your kit just use craigslist or the local classifieds.

Just be aware the bar for boiled seafood in SC is a bit higher than it is in LA, why not go enjoy some of what they offer?

This statement is preposterous.

They have bland boiled shrimp and steamed oysters. That's the extent of South Carolina "boiled" seafood.

You can get a 60-80qt pot and burner for less than $150. You and your buddy could split the costs.

just go to academy, buy a rig, and leave it at your friends house.
By the time you go thru the time, hassle and expense of trying to find and rent one, you’ll be way ahead

lol ok

I see you have never been or tried a low country boil.

Dem baws was putting corn, taters, and sausage in their boils for generations before it made its way down to the gulf coast.

Been to plenty in the low country. Never attended one that comes close to boiled shrimp, crawfish, or crabs here on the gulf coast. Adding corn and potatoes to a pot of water doesn't suddenly elevate the seafood it accompanies.

Punched in Charleston SC low country boil recipes popped up 5 star 486 vote recipe.
Ingredients:
1Tbl of old bay
5lbs of new potato’s
3 packages of kielbasa
8 ears of corn
5lbs of of Whole crab broken into pieces
4lbs of shrimp peeled and deveined

Based on the 486- 5 star votes and ingredients. I would say for OP to get his rig cooking and show these Baws how seafood is supposed to be boiled with flavor. No way this taste good. This is not even flavored water. 1 Tbl of Old Bay for all those ingredients plus water,????

Oh I boil some damn good crawfish and it would be a treat for these guests coming over to our friends house. Some probably have eaten them, but not like down here. I thought about just buying the gear at Academy, but my friend would probably never use the gear again and I hate waste.

outdoor propane burner is pretty handy for a lot of different cooking applications. Your friend could keep it to fry turkeys and such.

Check Amazon pricing, probably cheaper to purchase and ship there then to try and pack one and pay shipping

You will come out better buying a cheapo rig there than trying to ship it. You are looking a probably $200 easy on shipping. It all goes of dimensional weight.
