So why won’t Trump use the Senate for the SOTU?

Why are the only two options, House or outside DC?

Moving it to the Senate does 2 things, gives Pelosi an out at this point allowing her to say, we wouldnt have cancelled, you were silly to move. First things first make Nancy go on record as it wont happen at house.

Moving it out of D.C. if necessary makes Nancy more of an unreasonable count

Great idea as well. This is prime trolling opportunity to reach out to millions of people that otherwise wouldn't have given him a look.

Either one can be accomplished by having it in the Senate. Trump will have the mic, not Nancy. And having it in the Senate is even a bigger slap to her as he would state in the speech. Having it outside DC would turn the SOTU speech into just another rally speech.

The optics NEED him to have it in the Senate

Aaaand point out the extra expense to taxpayers because of Pelosi's childishness.

I, for one, don’t care where he does the SOTU. It’s going to be fricking wild regardless.

It won’t work. It requires a resolution in the Senate which needs 60 votes two times to pass.

Which means we need 6 Dems.

If Pelosi won’t allow a vote in the House, you can expect Schumer to reject one in the Senate too.

Edit: in the house, Pelosi can just not bring the vote. At least in the Senate - Mitch can bring it and force Dems to get on record of opposing it. Might be a decent political move.

The Senate is pretty small. Thunderous applause will be needed.

The mic? For 15 minutes? Great, the media narrative will live for days, my points eliminate them from capitalizing on those pieces

Poor optics. Smaller venue. Smaller crowd. Would look like a scaled down production. Not Trump's style.

No, it simply needs the President of the Senate to invite him.

Just like it simply needs the Speaker of the House to invite him to speak in the House. Or in Pelosi's case, it only requires her saying no to keep him out of the House.

I thought so too, but Fox ran a segment on it in detail. They even reviewed the resolutions of past SOTUs and said sometimes they are done they day of the SOTU.

It’s a pr ocedural formality that’s required for a joint session in the house.

Same applies to the Senate according to Fox. Needing 60 votes.

They opined if they don’t get one form they house, they aren’t likely to get it from the Senate either if the Dems stock together.

I think this. The House chamber can accommodate the 535 MOC's+Senators in addition to the cabinet, joint chiefs, USSC, and honored guests/photo-ops but the senate chamber can't. It would end up not being an address to the full congress.

Which is why he needs to have it in a large public venue. And then be very pointed in telling the nation who is there, and who is not.

My guess is the Senate would have to make a motion... would need 60 votes for cloture.

way too small, senate seats 100 plus viewing seats for about 100 more totaling maybe 200-250 max capacity.

house has over 500 seats plus an equal amount of viewing seating so thats 1000-1200 max capacity

For a Joint Session.

If Pelosi is going to play stupid games, there won't be an official Joint Session.

It will just be to the Senate, and whoever the President of the Senate decided to invite.

The SOTU address isn't required to be presented a Joint Session. That's just what's been the most common since it was televised.

Look at how small the senate chamber is in this floor plan compared to the house.

I've always wondered as to the layout of the capitol myself. Would love to explore it in full myself.

He should do the State of the Union at a Trump Rally... That would be spectacular to watch and entertaining as shite.
