Long time reader of the Rant , first time posting so go easy.
My thought is if we miss on the DL guys we really want and need then why just sign project guys when we can just sign more next year since the 2020 class should be heavy on DL. I understand we need more depth but I'd rather do like Bama did this year and sign 7-9 guys next year.

Need bodies on DL, but yes it’s a good idea

People said the same thing last year and LSU got Cole Tracy and Joe Burrow to transfer. Those were pretty good additions.

Shea stated awhile back that the plan is if we miss on Sopsher to save the spot for a JUCO guy

This was the year we’ve been waiting for. We were supposed to clean up. If talent is there now take it.

If we fail to fill all spots with who we're actually after, I've got no problem with saving spots.
We can always use them on a juco or grad transfer, or just save them for next year when the in-state talent pool is just filthy.

You don’t know how this works.
If you have five spots open, you make 5 TEs say no.

If we finish the way we're hoping, we'll get to 25.

Every year we get some "project" guys. Debo Jones, Foster Moreau, and Duke Riley are three recent ones. They are also three reasons why you should fill THIS class.
Oh, Cushenberry is another.

In an ideal world your completely right. My concern is that we’re relying on Meatball to land those 2020 guys and it looks like he’s gonn strike out in 2019.
Ika was Bill Busch. Meatball is quickly becoming a liability and frankly the Dline hasn’t been very impressive since he took over.

Lots of energy aimed at landing Ish or another DL but rare to have a DL contribute a ton as a true freshman, no? If we sign Ish I bet Neil Farrell, a previous 3-star, is ahead of him in the rotation and makes a bigger impact. Agree with idea of stockpiling dudes with "want" as Les would say
