For many years I’ve loved kicking back on my back deck, drinkin’ beer, and listening to the smooth soft rock of the 70’s slithering through my outdoor speakers. Some of my favorite artists of this genre are:
Paul Davis
England Dan & John Ford Coley
Firefall
Poco
America
Player
Ambrosia
Todd Rundgren
Orleans
Little River Band
The Eagles
Steely Dan
Van Morrison
Bread
Electric Light Orchestra
Al Stewart
Seals & Crofts
Name some of your favorite artists and songs....

You left out the two biggest: Kenny Loggins and Michael McDonald. Honorable mentions to Toto, Rupert Holmes, Boz Skaggs, and Christopher Cross.

Great list. Yacht Rock is on Sirius 4 right now. I'll be back later.

Yachtski Scale
The yachtski scale is the true test of a yacht rock song. The XM channel plays a large portion of garbage. The Beyond Yacht Rock podcast is the foremost authority on this subject, for your listening pleasure

That's quite an exhaustive list. As a fan of the yacht rock, that will be a great resource. Thanks for posting.

My pleasure. A lot of people may try to lead you astray in this thread about what pure yacht rock is. Stick with that Yachtski scale and you’ll be good. Keep the Fire, Kenny

didn't know what
but i enjoy every one on that list.
i remember one time when paul davis walked on stage on some talk show and i was like I really like this guy. My in-laws were like look at this hippy i hate him. before he sang a word. He sang I go Crazy .
after the song they were "wow i really like that song".

Every time i see somebodys list of "yacht rock" artists theres always a handful on there that make me question if i even know what this sub genre means lol

I don’t call what I like “yacht rock”. I call it 70’s soft rock, so I may be a little off on the true meaning myself.
ETA: from the original list, I didn’t think that
The Eagles
Steely Dan
Van Morrison
fit into my definition of the genre.

I did too, Yacht rock radio was the first time I ever heard of it.
Back to the op, do the Eagles really belong on this list? I listen to Yacht rock radio on xm ocassionally, and from what I hear on there, I don't think the Eagles really fit. At least generally speaking, I'm sure they could have a song or two that fits.

No, they stole the term from some writers and music reviewers from L.A. that had a web series in the early 2000’s called “Yacht Rock”
Those guys do a podcast now where they rate yacht rock songs. XM just plays any garbage soft rock song from the 70’s and calls It yacht rock.
