In a perfect world, I agree.

However, zero amnesty is impractical in practice, especially from a logistics standpoint.

The position of the GOP base has always been wall first then we can talk amnesty. So if we get the wall funding and compromise on amnesty it's a win for the GOP's base original position.

This is not necessarily a true statement. I was listening to the radio a year or so ago, when DACA was the hot issue and President Trump offered 1.7 million a pathway to citizenship. I can't remember who was saying it, but he said that the optics on the DACA kids was not good, and that is why you didn't see wall to wall advertisements during the election showing a DACA kid completing med school or graduating from college, etc. Too many of the DACA kids are in our prison system, dropped out of HS, and on drugs. Some are successful, but as a whole, they are not doing well, and the Dems don't talk about how well the DACA kids are doing because they know it is too easy to debunk.

Not sure if that analysis is correct, but it makes sense. you never saw political ads touting the achievements of the DACA kids during the 2016 or 2018 elections.

I was choke down giving amnesty to DACA under the following circumstances only:

1) Wall is funded and completed before any amnesty happens.

2) No immigrants accepted from anywhere until judicial backlog is caught up.

3) Anyone entering through the southern border during this moratorium will be immediately released back into Mexico, children or not.

4) DACA hopefuls must register for citizenship during this moratorium and prove they are self supported. They will be given 6 month work permits during this process.

5) Immigration system must be completely regained during this time to prevent future backlogs.

6) Sactuary cities and states must end sactuary status and cooperate full with ICE to get current issue under control.

7) Congress must fully fund, approve and defend all these stipulations.

8) Funding and bill must be passed solo - no pork or pet projects.

Yes. Jan 19, 2018, Trump did offer DACA for $25 billion. Nancy and Schumer were so happy about it, they went on TV and announced a deal. Obvious folk (Coulter, etc...) screamed that this deal would end Trump's presidency. You know what happened next.

I thought it was august of 2017 but either way...yeah. Can't have progress that goes against deep state needs.

end up in full legal status though the courts in a few years.

It's a shame, but this is exactly what will happen. In the short term though a wall will be built and for the most part, this aspect of illegal immigration will be settled. Obviously, there are other reforms necessary, but just waltzing in at the border should have been diminished.
