Of course

You’re not wrong

But we need to get better at both.

We all watched for years as les’ scheme held back talent.

In 2013 We had 2 NFL WR, and NFL RB and a QB with a cannon and we still weren’t a top 25 offense. An amazing OL.

How much better Jimmies and joes do you need?

Scheme matters

Personnel matters

We need to upgrade both, big time.

Look, guys that want to see scheme see it no matter what. Yes, there were blown assignments. They’re always are, every football game ever. The difference is the Clemson QB could take advantage of them because he had time to find them and throw the ball. People saying he got the ball out in a second or two or just crazy. Yes, he climbed the pocket a lot and made some fairly pressured throws– but it was nothing like the pressure that Burrow faced. Burrow often never completed his drop before someone was standing there.

Alabama looked confused as frick.

Alabama look frustrated. They started pressing because they were getting beat. Clemson receivers were catching the shite out of the ball even when they should not have. And the D line usually covers all the secondary errors by getting to the quarterback. They were not able to accomplish that at all last night.

Amen and my original point. The sky is limitless when you have time to do what you want whether it is current scheme or something else. This is a foundation block of the offensive effectiveness. Scheme is a later decision in that development. I dont argue against scheme but we have to get better in the trench.

Another true statement.

Take what the defense is allowing.

All seniors (2) and juniors (3) on their OL, and guess what, only one expected to be drafted is the senior LT in the mid-late rounds. Juniors should all be coming back.

Sure wish we could see something like that.

Guys not talented enough to get drafted?

Except there were plenty of blown assignments. Bama was very confused, and I just don’t know what you were watching.

Please tell me because I didn't see them. I saw Clemson's WRs doing work. I saw the Thompson blown assignment and can't remember another. I quit watching halfway through 4th so maybe that's what I'm missing.

Clemson's starting OL:

But the apologists on this board have told us you need nothing but 5 star talent to even compete with Bama's front seven.

I wont say there were a lot of them but Moses standing there with his hands in the air looking for his Mom in the mall while TL drops a first down pass right by him was pretty good...

which gets back to my point on OL perfromance. LSU did not have the time for some of these plays to develop. And I am talking about against routine level SEC teams... We could be soooooo much better with sound pass protection

Clemson had time because they were showing Bama so many looks and spreading the ball around.

This causes their pass rush to be on their heels.

Its not fricking rocket science.

ETA:

Lots of quick passes too, which can really exhaust a pass rush.

Creative play calling? All of their big plays were straight drop back passes. Nothing fancy at all. The first long TD the Bama safety jumped a short crosser leaving the WR wide open down the seam. The second long TD the Bama corner fell down. It's like you didn't watch the game.

Do you understand why those plays worked?

They were set up by other plays that had Bama scrambling. They were confused and on their heels because of the play calling, which opened up these TD passes.

Its like you didn't watch the game.

There was a play where Savion thought he was in Zone and let his WR run across the field when he was in man.

There was a play where Dylan Moses was late covering his man because he wasn’t paying attention because he was trying to get the CBS to play.

There was the play were Smith got hurt and the Saftieis looked like they didn’t know who the frick was supposed to be over there providing cover over the top.

The Alabama defense before every snap looked like they were contanstly trying to figure out what they were doing.

Just watch the game again.

Even if they aren’t blowing their assignment, when the offense keeps you guess you can’t execute your assignment the same as when you know what the offense is going to do. Clemson has Alabama reacting to their offense and not just executing their plus.

People complained about our OL “not selling” screens vs Bama. We ran them to tendency almost 100% of the time. 3rd and long after our QB had been pressured a few times.

Props to Clemson's O-line and D-line. They definitely showed up Bama. So much to the point, I sat there thinking, "How in the hell we couldn't beat this team?"

I 100% agree with this. My point was Clemson's players deserve a ton of credit. They made plays. Just felt like some posters were taking away from their performance by saying it was all scheme. Of course scheme played a part but those kids made play after play.

Of course they do.

And I’m saying they are better in every way on offense.

But it’s faster to upgrade coaches than just hope we can upgrade talent to a point we’re we can bully Alabama around.
