other streamers will get a handful more, meanwhile he'll get thousands of more subscribers. seems fair.

How so? Outside of people playing fortnite, I dont see how it helps attract people to other streamers

I'll watch Twitch for PatTheNESPunk's NES Marathon, live chats with ReviewTechUSA, and maybe some other random stuff here and there, but for the life of me, I don't understand the popularity of watching people like Ninja.

Who is watching a twitch stream on NYE anyway?

Ninja is turning into a major media personality and the other streamers either need to ignore it and enjoy the exposure twitch is getting or.... bitch and complain because it ain't gonna change. Since Amazon bought twitch and Fortnite's explosion (don't understand it myself), Ninja is being pushed to the forefront by upper management as the "Michael Jordan" of gaming. It will bring tons of eyeballs to the medium that normally wouldn't be there. Like it or not, these ads help these streamers who hate the fact another guy's channel is being advertised specifically.

So tell me how these ads, being played on competitive channels, brings more eyes to them?

How does viewing this ad on Chocotacos channel bring outside eyeballs to his channel? At best, it'll pull Chocos viewers over to Ninja. Especially any new people watching chocos stream

To be fair, the complaining didn’t start until the ad starting appearing on Twitch streamers broadcast, which is completely fair.

Yeah his post would make sense if this ad was on YouTube or some other site... But it’s on Twitch, so the exposure thing goes out the door.

This was just another shitty move by Twitch. I mean imagine being a streamer with a New Years Eve stream planned out and Twitch starts showing ads of another streamer’s NYE event on your page.

Yea, there would be no problem if Twitch wasn't playing the ads on other streamers channels

I also find it hilarious that Ninja goes straight into playing victim from his deleted tweet.

Word of mouth. People hearing about a stream that will have millions of viewers, then jumping on twitch to figure out what the F is this all about. They stay, find other channels to watch.

Sure it might temporarily pull viewers on NYE, but in the long term, it is good for everyone on the medium. Ninja, like it or not, is their strongest marketing personality right now.

Advertising it all over twitch builds hype, hype brings more viewers from outside the community.

To everyone who disagrees, they are not JUST advertising on their own platform. There are press releases out all over the blogosphere and on major websites about the stream . Just google it.

They are going for an all out media blitz here, why not take advantage of the free exposure on their own service?

Because that is a pretty shitty thing to do? Especially, when you consider that it’s the streamers who make Twitch go.

Again, as far as I know, no streamer had a problem with the event being advertised until it was found out that the ads were rolling on Twitch streams too. That’s just plain shitty. It’s not a Ninja problem, it’s a Twitch problem.

On twitch it is asinine to advertise another streamer on someone's stream.

On the internet, they can advertise all they want to their hearts content but trying to steal viewers away from other streamers on New Years's Eve by advertising during a competitor's stream is pure garbage.

Seriously. There are many streamers who are popular because of their interesting personalities or humor or how they interact with chat and such, or maybe they excel at a game or something, but Ninja checks none of those boxes.

I think it's inevitable you're going to have some people get to be hugely popular by blind luck. Fortnite is such a huge game now (gag) that there simply must be a hugely popular streamer associated with it by default and he just sorta fell arse backwards into being that guy. Good for him I guess.

And yes, Twitch should absolutely not get into the business of advertising streamers themselves on their own platform over other streams. If they want to run ads for him off of Twitch and stuff, so be it.

I don't watch him but he is extremely good, has a quality stream, and is very energetic. He caters to kids and that's fine IMO because it's a huge market. You bet your arse I'd sell out to get the money he is getting.

He has over 5k wins and a 38% win rate.

I agree this stunt doesn't help other twitch streamers and they are terrible not helping the smaller streamers.

Fortnite is popular because the developer actually cares about keeping it updated and supports the streamers.
