I disagree with POS liberals almost 100% of time. But I raised my daughters with the "you don't have to hug anyone" mentally. They are both sweet and usually hug everyone applicable. But they know they don't have to.

No one should ever force a child to do something they're uncomfortable doing.
This includes eating foods they don't like the taste of, getting haircuts, wearing clothes they don't like, and especially giving a hug to every weirdo who wants one, like their grandparents for instance.
