Resthaven Funeral Home BR - Rant

Preface: My wife is pregnant. Back in June, the baby was diagnosed with Anencephaly (relatively rare condition that prevents normal formation of the skull and brain). This basically means that the baby will likely live only a few hours. We started talking to funeral homes in BR area a while back to prepare for the January due date.
Guy at Resthaven showed us the children’s area, then the available adult areas. He made it very clear that if we were to buy two adult plots, they would be able to place the baby in between them. Repeating this every single time he showed us an area with plots available. This sounded ideal as we were considering getting our spots now, so that we can all be together.
Guy starts going over pricing, in the most confusing and overwhelming way possible. After all is said and done, just our two spots (with the option of putting our baby in the middle) would have been well over $10k. Just a spot in the children’s area would be $6k. No way we can afford that, so we go home.
Later on, my mom calls: a guy my grandparents met is willing to sell us he and his wife’s plots for what he paid back in the late 70’s. An incredible act of kindness that I’m still trying to wrap my head around. Stress is starting to relieve somewhat.
Call Resthaven to tell the guy that we just need to transfer the ownership and have them handle the grave services. Guy calls back and has the gall to tell me that he was mistaken when he told us they could place the baby between the two adult plots, and we’d have to purchase a 3rd for the baby.
I understand it’s a business, but damn. That’s some cold shite.
Long story short, call Seale, they’ll take care of you.

Funerals are the biggest scam of all time. Absolutely retarded how expensive they are for what they do

Sorry for what you are dealing with with your child.
We bought our plots about 3 years ago, I think the total cost was about $2200, which also included a headstone or bench with family name.
That obviously does not include funeral costs, just the plots themselves.

They make their money on poor decisions made in grief. It’s tough but you’ve got to go into it like you would any other situation that you have to make a big decision. Don’t let them manipulate your situation.

What’s his name? I going to call and make him realize what a piece of shite he is. My heart goes out to you and your family. Stay strong; you are the leader of your family.

I'm so sorry, man. I can't say I know what you and your wife are going through- but I am sorry this is happening to y'all.

That’s an awful thing to do to anyone especially someone going through what you and your wife are. I would blast them everywhere I could and then tell them to shove it if they contact you again. Prayers for you and your wife as you go through this.

in our prayers Have know the Seale family all my life. They are good people

That is horrible man. They are just looking to profit. They said they were mistaken because they were no longer going to make the profit they were looking for, so they changed their tune on having the baby in the middle. It's a piece of land they have already paid for, every dime that comes in, is complete profit.

I don't want anybody putting themselves through any hardship, financial or otherwise, when I'm done. Get rid of my remains in the cheapest legal way available and don't look back.

Invite the fricker to Sonic and see how many baws on here will show up to kick this frickers arse......taking advantage of people is one thing but taking advantage of grieving parents should be a capital fricking offense......with us executing the sentence.
Prayers man

I too am sorry for what you are going thru. Where I used to work is where I saw the most expensive jewelry on women in the funeral business. Sickening.

For starters, I'm so sorry for what your family is going through. My thoughts and prayers are with you, your wife and your family, bro.
Secondly...My sister's first child delivered premature at just over 5 months due to what doctor's later confirmed was something called an incompetent cervix. Corrected with a simple staple for subsequent pregnancies, it cost my sister her first child's life and was a terrible experience for our entire family. I try to take some positive from it by thinking of the two subsequent lives she saved as my sister went on to have two totally healthy, beautiful children after thanks to the doctor's realizing the issue.
Because of ridiculously heinous Louisiana Laws, any child over the "age," of five months gestationally (sp?) must be buried in Louisiana. Not only did my sister have to endure the tragedy at the Hospital, but then again by going through a service and burial later.
Seale Funeral Home paid for the entire deal out of pocket when we contacted them. Won my family's business for life. Could not have been classier or more accommodating.
