The FBI initially said Flynn was "not being deceptive".
He is being charged with lying because there is a dispute about memory in the revised 302 7 months after the initial 302. Flynn is pleading guilty to saying that the FBI is correct in saying that he lied about his memory so Mueller will stop fricking with him.

If he didn't and Flynn was adamant about sticking to his plea Sullivan would have never extended the sentencing another 90 days and would have sentenced him right there. Sullivan was pissed that Flynn was not fighting back and does not want Flynn to plead guilty to a crime he did not commit so he tried to scare him into rescinding his plea by threatening Flynn with jail time, something the Mueller team was not recommending. In fact, Sullivan offered Flynn a second legal and independent opinion from the court, but Flynn refused.
Mueller's case sucks and he would lose in a trial with a quickness. Now the FARA stuff and the other stuff associated with Flynn's son is a different story.

Flynn was absolutely "tricked".
That was the STATED INTENT by Comey, McCabe and Strzok.
It worked.
Denying Flynn was tricked is beyond stupid.
Kennedy's statement is beyond stupid.
None of that addresses whether Flynn “told a bald-faced lie” or lies.
He may have.
The problem I have coming definitively to that conclusion is I've not seen details of Flynn's initial statements. I have seen Strzok's initial assessment that Flynn did not seem to be lying though.
Keeping in mind Strzok's intent was to catch Flynn, as well as Strzok's in-depth knowledge of the Flynn-Kislyak conversations, it would seem his contemporary observations about Flynn's truthfulness should at least be of significant interest.
Sullivan's courtroom performance oddly called those observations to question. So one would assume there is a lot of redacted, nonpublic information leading to the "bald-faced lie" conclusion.
None of that should forgive Comey's actions.
They were odious.
