Weekday - I think we will still try to find a 4th starter, at least early on.
Maybe even auditioning a fifth starter.

The first two weeks of the season we have two midweek games each week.

C - Brock Mathis (until Garza is healthy)
1st - CJ Willis
2nd - Healthy Brandt Broussard
3rd - Hal Hughes
SS - Healthy Josh Smith
OF - Same as last year

DH - Garza

Weekend:
F - Hess
Sa - Marceaux
Su - Walker

I think this is what it's going to be. Only things I would change is have

1B and DH as a three man rotation of Garza, Beloso, Willis.

That’s awesome but knowing baseball is right around the corner is always depressing to me because I know football is over.

That's my dream, but it never works out that way.

The combo of Alan Dunn (number of pitchers used in a season went up when he came on staff) and the schedule change to add a weekend back on to the schedule (taking away three additional mid week games), has made developing a 5th starter unrealistic.

It's also not really needed. You can get through with 3 good starters in the post season. That 4th is nice to have ready to go, but not needed. 5th is totally unneeded. What's more important, a 4th/5th starter to throw 6 innings to help you beat UNO or having that 4th/5th guy throw a few in midweek and be available to help you during an SEC series?

I'm as corny as Kansas in August, high as a kite on the 4th of July...

The Tigers haven't played an inning of baseball yet this season, and I'm ready for...an ICE...COLD...BEER!!!

Until one of the four starters goes down with a sore arm or we need a fifth starter in the SEC Tournament or in a regional.

Yeah, Nick Bush and Caleb Gilbert are guys that have stepped in late in years and made starts. But we've had recent years where there wasn't even a push to develop a 4th starter (on a consistent week to week basis all year) let alone a 5th starter.

Also any of Jaden Hill/Cole Henry/Riggs Threadgill could be dominant arms come late SEC play.

I get that, but if you ever get to the point of needing starter number 5 in college baseball, your season is probably on life support. Whether it be injuries to your main guys, or you are having to play 5 games to win a regional, it usually means a bad situation.

Having 5 guys capable of giving you 5 innings is one thing, but having 5 strictly starters is what I mean is not needed.

And to hell with the SEC tourney. This team needs to be in a position to where that tournament doesn't mean anything at all. Having to play there, with a lot on the line, usually means your season is almost over anyway. But yeah, you need 12 starters to get through that damn thing.

Nice to see, but truth be told I’m still in football/basketball mode. What’s our outlook this season? Omaha bound?

I think the highest goal you should ever set in baseball is a super regional. From that point anything can happen in a 3 game series.

If healthy, this is pretty much an Omaha or bust team though.

I would personally be surprised to see Hughes hold on to a starting position.

I didn't mind him last year but this year we have the bodies and unless he had learned how to hit I think he's a bench guy.

I think Hughes will start the season at third but I think Bianco will edge him out if we don't have to use Bianco behind the dish

I think it all depends on if CPM feels the value of his glove outweighs the value of another players bat.

I don't see Smith moving from SS, but it's also hard to see using defense as the reason to play Hughes and then sticking him at third base. Is CPM dead set against Smith at third and Hughes at SS? IDK.

Then maybe his bat is a plus tool this year, who knows.
