Rodney’s offer is contingent on ish committing. That’s not even debatable

True...but what other options does he have?

Okay? I wasn't debating that.

That there is even a discussion about whether or not we should be taking his brother is ridiculous. There should be no offer on the table, contingent or otherwise.

It's a waste of resources as a favor to a player that wouldn't even be worth it.

If we really liked our chances with other top DL then it wouldn't be. We are in this situation out of necessity.

You said “for a shot” at getting his brother. I’m saying it’s not for a shot. He only has a committable offer if we get his brother.

#1 DT 60 miles from campus going to you instead of your biggest rival who whipped you in the trenches this year? I would say it’s worth it. It would be different if he was going out of the SEC

I'll disagree. I would take 1 scholly for Ika over 2 schollies for Ish any day of the week. We are having to do this because we are desperate and don't love our chances with anyone else.

You're focusing on the specific wording and ignoring the larger point I was making, which doesn't change with your wording. The point is that 1 spot of 25 is a valuable resource and people were worried about using it on a kicker that only had one year of eligibility (hindsight: great move) and a mediocre DB with one year of eligibility (helped deal with injuries, but was still only mediocre).

And now people are completely okay with burning one of those spots on a person whose sole contribution to the program will be his existence as a sibling.

We will just disagree on that, and that's fine. I don't think Sopsher would be worth the headache here. We (like 99% of programs) don't do a great job of maximizing the contributions of headcase players that need constant motivation.

I didn't say it was. But Ika for 1 is better than Ish for 2.

It's definitely not an ideal situation, and I don't like it...but sometimes you do what you have to do.

#1 rated player at his position, 1 hour away from home, at arguably the biggest position of need, who if not signing with you will sign with your biggest nemesis?? Unless you know you have the other big fish in line, you have to get dirty with this one. That's recruiting.

Again I ask why is this Rodney thing even brought up? Didnt he drop out of JUCO this year and hasnt played football since high school? How can he get into any D1 university?

Been posted several times. If he qualified as a HS senior, he qualifies now.

Maybe, maybe not. It's impossible to say at this point.

How many spots in our 2016 signing class would you have given up for Ed Oliver? How many in 2017 would you give up for Marvin Wilson? How many guys in the 2015 class would you give up to have gotten CeCe Jefferson?

There are always plenty of guys in signing classes who will never see the field at LSU, and it's not always the low guys either. 2016 has several solid 4* guys who have yet to play a meaningful snap after 3 seasons. So, if there's an 80% chance Ish turns into a solid starter and a 50% chance he turns into an all american, first round pick, then he's absolutely worth 2 spots.

I think Ika will turn out to be a better player than Sopsher. 1-for-1 would be better for LSU, but I'm afraid Sopsher is headed to Bama.

A scholarship for the brother is not a waste. The kid only has one year of eligibility. He isn’t going to be tying up a scholarship for 4-5 years

You get to sign 25 per year. So every 5 years that is 125 slots with a 85 man roster. You have to process about 8 guys a year to sign the max. Hence, one year of the brother means there is one less younger guy that would have to be processed next year

Not a big price to pay to get a 5 star at a true position if need. Not to mention stem the flow of in state DL to Bama and also the exodus from Tangi

A key piece of info would be, which player would we not be taking to take Rodney?

Last year, it looks like we missed out on Michael Williams, or Beal, to take Cole Tracy.

Likely no one this cycle. It more than likely will be a spot that is reserved for next year or transfer.

Yeah O has to do whatever it takes to get Ish. You just can't let him go to Bama

Lanard Fournette was worth a scholarship to get Leonard so Rodney Sophser is worth one to get Ish.
