Liberals today hold up JFK as their hero because he was a democrat.
He would be a right wing wacko today.
He would be a right wing wacko today.

Check out The Future of Capitalism by Oxford prof Paul Collier for a sobering assessment of how both left and right have gone off the rails recently. As the left become ideologues and the right become populists, the pragmatists in the center have been increasingly ignored.

I probably don't agree with her on a lot of issues, but she's a woman I can respect and have a conversation with. Bring back this type of liberal please.

Damn Common Sense, who would have thunk it

The deep state is no myth but a sodden, intertwined mass of bloated, self-replicating bureaucracy that constitutes the real power in Washington and that stubbornly outlasts every administration
....and they want Robert Mueller et al to deliver Trump's head on a silver platter to them. We let Mueller do it and you can kiss this country goodbye. Donald Trump and his army of "deplorables" was the last chance to save this free market orientated Constitutional Republic.

Read the book I reference above. It’s not even this type of [liberal] or [conservative] we need. The ideologues, zealots and elitist statists must all be summarily dismissed.

And war is ugly and unpleasant

Every now and then I'll take a break from my usual no holds barred anti left shtick. Cam has given us a few much needed rest breaks.

beautifully stated

Also loved when Michael Moore predicted Trump would win. That was special.

I’m a big fan of hers. One of my favorite things she’s said is that if women had run humanity we’d still be living in grass huts. There’d probably be fewer wars, less competition, etc. but women would still be dying in childbirth since men have improved medicine(and built bridges, hospitals,...) That notion also jives with her belief that the huge mistake of modern feminism is seeing men as the enemy. Men have sought to protect women and obviously the genders worked together through all of history.
( I’m a woman and TOTALLY agree with the grass huts theory.)

I have been trying for decades to get my fellow Democrats to realize how unchecked bureaucracy, in government or academe, is inherently authoritarian and illiberal. A persistent characteristic of civilizations in decline throughout history has been their self-strangling by slow, swollen, and stupid bureaucracies.
The woman gets it. At least now she does.

Me too. She also references Jordan Peterson. Both are interestingly influenced by Jungian analyst Erich Neumann and his book 'The Origin and History of Consciousness'(1949).
Open Minded liberals like her are the kinds of professors and thinking I was accustom to in receiving a liberal arts education. I am a conservative and I have to credit instructors and scholars like Dr Paglia for forcing me to think and learn to think through ideas and challenges.
She does not represent todays left. Todays left are more close minded than the extreme fundamentalist that I remember knowing when I was a student three and four decades ago. If they could see the forest for the trees they would sit at her feet and learn to "know thyself."

She's been saying this sort of stuff since the late 80s.

Have you read that book?

That would make a good commercial if not already done.

The mainstream media’s nonstop assault on Trump has certainly backfired by cementing his outsider status. He is basically a pragmatic deal-maker, indifferent to ideology.
I don't know if I've ever seen a more apt and fitting statement from a Democrat. I wish more of them were able to set aside political affiliations and cut through the hate that's often spewed, it's refreshing.
