John Tesh also composed the NFL on NBC theme in the late 80's, early 90's, which I really liked.

Ahh ‘94 was before my time. My wheelhouse was 1999/2000-2003.

Back in the late 70's-early 80's, one could watch the NBA on CBS at 10:30pm, after your local news. Lots of Lakers/Blazers/Nuggets?Warriors.

Also, seeing Western Regional games in the NCAA tourney after the !0pm news was awesome. DePaul takes on Western Kentucky, live from Boise!

Those were tape delayed.

I remember a Rockets-Lakers playoff game when Sampson hit a turnaround jumper that rolled in. I think it was the Western Conference finals that sent Houston on to play Boston.

CBS did tape-delay the Finals because they didn't want to frick up their prime-time ratings, but I'm pretty sure those regular season games were live.

Mane those Sunday triple headers were too official doe.

11am Pacers @ Hornets

1:30 pm Suns @ Spurs

4pm Nuggets @ Sonics

Man...y'all should have grown up in the early 80's. Usually only 1 game on Sunday and it started at noon. It was either Lakers @ Celtics, Lakers @ 76ers, or 76ers @ Celtics.

Then occasionally they liked to branch out and carry a 2nd game at 2:30 and that game was always at the Forum, featuring the Lakers hosting either the Celtics, 76ers, or Rockets.

I spent the better part of the early 80's thinking there were only 4-5 teams in the NBA...

Oh, and the Christmas game was ALWAYS Celtics @ Knicks.

I love the old animated CBS intros. Sometimes less is just more.

What shows drove up CBS’s ratings those years? Dallas? Murder She Wrote?
