No this isn't about keybinding.

Why do video game make you follow someone and they walk/run at half the speed you do?

A lot of the time this is used as a plot-device for games that have a a good chunk of the storytelling in the in-game dialogue. I know there are terrible escort quests but I thought I'd still point that out.

1. Unskippable or forced interaction cutscenes (like the walking/talking you described)

2. When a game has 50 different moves or weapons yet one move/weapon is so much clearly better than all the others in all situations you just spam it the whole game, rendering the other options irrelevant.

3. When a game includes some gimmick level or section that isn't the main playstyle, and it almost always has horrible controls. Some non-driving game will have some sort of car race level or some non-platforming game will put some random platforming section in it. If you want to include this variety into your game, that's fine, but the controls and camera need to be good for it, otherwise it's always terrible.

4. Oppressive help and handholding. Every single level or mission there's blinking arrows all over the place telling you exactly where to go, what to do. Oh you've been at a puzzle for 15 seconds? Better start giving you hints. If you put this shite into your game you better damn well have an option to turn it off.

5. Ridiculously too frequent checkpoints. If you have a checkpoint every 2 seconds, it renders health and death and pretty much all stakes in the game irrelevant.

6. Decorative doors/buildings. I understand that in a city or town or something you're going to probably have to include some filler buildings with decorative doors, but the buildings you can actually enter need to be distinct from the ones you cannot in a not subtle way.

7. Trophies or achievements that are just mindless grinds. "Get 1,000 headshots", "Open 5,000 chests" or some crap. Obviously nobody is making anyone pursue these things, but real achievements are drown out by these shite ones.

The fact you can import music into MLB The Show and the ease of roster sharing and transferring from one year of the game to the next, while EA Sports sits on its arse with each of those.

2K at least has a sold roster building base and normally has a good, relevant soundtrack

I've said it here before, but it's grinding for me. If the combat isn't fun in and of itself, I'm not going to mindlessly do it so I can unlock the spell I need to beat the boss at the end of the dungeon. The game should be balanced so that's not necessary.

The funny thing is that some of my favorite games from when I was younger (often JRPG's) have this, but I simply had more time and patience then, I guess. Now, I immediately quit and move on to something else.

And this. Pretty sure this is why I never get very far in Skyward Sword every time I attempt to give it another shot. There's no way to mute Fi.

Collection quests.

Hidden package collection objects with little to no in-game reward for finding them. Give me a reason to do this. I don't care about the 100-point achievement.

I hate seek-and-find nonsense in video games.

1. Ridiculously long intro. I'll figure it out, let me play the game.

2. Too much story/dialog. Story is a major pet peeve of mine. I don't care about story. I want to play the game, not watch a movie.

3. Related to #2 - un-skippable cut scenes/dialog. Not a chance I'm playing these games.

Games that only allow for one game save per profile. I shouldn't have to lose my old game save if I want to start a new game.

That's a big one for me. I remember when rockstar first started adding a lot of buildings you could walk into in GTA I was dreading it knowing my play style would have me trying to enter every single building I saw worried I'd miss something. I'm now re-discovering this in RDR2. Too much time wasted trying buildings with locked doors.

Another issue that RDR2 has brought to light for me is when they map too many different actions to a single button. Like when I'm trying to loot a body, but my horse is too close so I keep mounting instead of looting. Or the obvious one that LT can either bring up a dialogue option, or put a gun to someones head if you didn't realize you had your gun equipped. It's impossible to get in sync with the controls when the button actions can change constantly depending on small details that are easy to miss

ETA: This one is mainly for nintendo - forcing you to use gimmicky controls. The Wii force feeding motion controls down your throat for some of the Zelda games was so miserable. And I just got the new Mario Party (Switch version) for my kids and it forces you to use the little nunchuk controllers, so even though we have one set of those + two expensive pro controllers, we can't use the pro controllers and need to buy yet another damn set of controllers so we can all play

Been playing FFXV, and this is one of the biggest problems with the game.

Fallout nails this. Just board up any door you can't open.

Any quests or missions with a fricking race or time limit in it. If I wanted a racing game I’d fricking buy one.

Yeah, came here to bitch about fixed save points. Early FF games were always the worst about this.

This x1000. Hate time limits or coutdowns, which are often exacerbated by slow allies as mentioned above. Any kind of "protect" or escost mission has to be the most painful mission type in all of games. Add a time limit/clock and you have my most hated gaming experience.

On the flip side, ever since Enemy Territory Escort missions in MP only games are like my favorite modes.

Spyro Reignited Trilogy did this. Annoyed the shite out of me. I don't get the point.

solid post. Not just followers. I hate forced slowdowns.

The new Tomb Raider started with a slow walk section.

The thing is you used to be able to import music on 2k too but they got rid of that option. I spent hours jamming out to my own music playing 2k11.

Actually that might have just been a function of having my 360 connected to the same network as my computer, now that I think about it. Probably wasn't a feature of the game.
