Good non LSU tweet that can give some perspective about the Greedy/Devin situations

Colton Pouncy:
It's not either/or. These kids have their own future to consider, and after talking with people they trust they feel it's in their best interest to sit out a bowl game, that's their decision, and it doesn't make them less loyal to the school. I doubt there are many, if any, of their teammates that look down on them for it. And on the other hand, Devin is staying, that's his decision, great for the team, but that shouldn't give us reason to look down on Greedy for what he thought was best.
We need to accept each decision and still thank them for representing LSU with their time here. It was a privelige to watch them suit up
quote:
Kyler Murray transferred to Oklahoma, became a Heisman candidate and has his team in the CFP. Jalen Hurts lost his starting job, stayed at Alabama and was ready when called upon. It’s OK to celebrate Jalen without ripping players who transfer for a better opportunity.

The risk of injury is the same if not less than game 1. BS on sitting out a big game for your team and the school standing behind you.

Support the kid for grinding hard for 3 years, and playing his tail off for LSU
Don't bash him over 1 game for taking his future into consideration.

Greedy's decision is 100% about Greedy.
I am ok with that. He is a man and needs to make his own decisions. But... please don't try to make it anything other than what it is.
His former team is going to battle on January 1 and he is not joining them. That is a fact that cannot be ignored.

none of us know the situation with any of these guys. you can't make a judgment.
there is temperament, financial circumstances, paranoia, etc., etc.
I think they should play if healthy, but I understand if they do not, and have no words of condemnation.
btw, greedy was and always be a great tiger!

Operative word is "their" - should be our, as in team. Way too much selfishness in our society.
For the last time, start something, finish something, period.

FTR, I'm completely OK with his decision. It's HIS decision to make. I think the negative reaction to the decision is based upon two things:
1. No matter how you want to spin, he is choosing to quit on his team. LSU still has one game left to play. Is it meaningless? That's subjective to every player. Is the decision based in logic? Sure. But either way, he is quitting on his teammates.
2. Far more guys have played in the bowl game and gone on to be drafted very highly that not. Jaylon Smith is the noteworthy exception. But that is the outlier, not the norm.
It really just depends on the player. Last season Derwin James of FSU skipped the bowl game. Now, he had some injury issues during the year and his coach also skipped out on the bowl game. On the other hand, Saquon Barkley chose to play in this very game, despite playing arguably a more physically demanding position.
There's no "right or wrong" answer. Just a matter of what each guy wants to do.

If players from other schools were also sitting out i would be more ok with it. But it is a rare thing to do despite the media portrail of sitting out becoming a huge trend.
If he had on nagging injuries if would be diffsrent , but he seems to be perfectly healthy

So you're saying people shouldn't have their own opinions?
Devin is there for his teamates.

Why not look at changing the wording in the scholarship and have it read that if you choose to skip the bowl game then you have to repay the value of the scholarship for that year

So if we made it into the playoffs would he do the same? I dont think so and dont even use the its a meaningless bowl game crap as an excuse.

Also chosing to sit out when perfectly healthy cant be a good look to NFL scouts

Does anyone think Jalen stays next season or is he out as a grad transfer?

that has zero to do with each other.

I mean... it's also about his young daughter and the rest of his family. But yes, he is being selfish and rightfully so. It's his life. He's doing what he thinks is best for him and his family.

I don't think anybody doesn't get why Greedy would sit out. It's being extra cautious so he can enter the draft injury free and sign a multi million dollar contract. And then if an injury happens, it's at least guaranteed for him to make money. We all get that portion of it.
My comment about it is if you're ok with a player skipping out on a bowl game when we really need him...don't dare ever, ever, ever, criticize a fan for skipping out on going to a big game (like an Alabama or Georgia game). Don't ever criticize empty seats.
Because you can't be ok with one thing and pissed off at the other. We see it in multiple threads, for every single game on this site.
And to be completely honest, the impact of Greedy sitting the bowl game is exponentially greater than Joe Blow deciding not to go to a game.

I agree 100%. It isn't the first time a player in his position played in a bowl game before going to the draft as a high draft pick. He is special in his talents but he isn't special in his current situation.
I wish him the best. The was a great player at LSU. I think his absence on Jan 1 will hurt him a great deal more than it will hurt LSU.
