Go read the Michigan fan boards. They are more pissed than us. Nobody wants to play an opponent in a bowl game you have already played the last two seasons

That's a stupid reason. Wouldn't an undefeated UCF have earned a right to play close to home?

They played in the Peach Bowl last year, perhaps their fans and the Peach Bowl which has had Group of 5 teams twice in 4 years wanted a different venue

I couldn't believe he offered geography up as a legitimate reason.

And then to say UCF was already in the Peach last year, so making Michigan and Florida play each other for the 3rd time in 4 seasons was the better option.

I'm more convinced than ever that the committee bullshits about matchups for about 15 minutes, then goes to lunch and drinks pitchers of mimosas before going home.

Also not a strong suit in this thread either

Ann Arbor to Atlanta 700 miles, 10 hour drive

Ann Arbor to Pheonix 1900 miles 28 hour drive

Who is driving that? The difference in flight time is nominal. Not enough of a difference to make that a deciding factor. It’s closer than the Rose Bowl, which is the official Big 10 bowl.

I would think that UCF would’ve loved the chance to take on Florida, regardless of the venue.

A ton of Michiganers live here in AZ.

As a football fan, I wanted to see LSU-UM. As an LSU fan in AZ, I'm gladI'll be able to get tickets

A lot closer than Phoenix. To the tune of about 1200 miles close.

Ann Arbor to Atlanta can be driven on a day.

Define nominal, Detroit to Atlanta 2:15 minutes Detroit to Phoenix 4:40 per a quick google search, I don’t consider a flight that’s twice as long to be “nominally longer”

ETA if those times are accurate you could fly from Detroit to Atlanta AND back in the same time just to get from Det to Phoenix

You guys are just looking for things to bitch about the committee at this point

Not really. Geography is just lame rationale for slotting major bowls.

It's not like Michigan fans saw the matchups and were like "thank God, we can save a couple hours of flight time!"

Exactly. No one is saying Atlanta isn’t closer. But it’s not close enough that it should be a factor.

Why? Because you’d rather LSU play Michigan?

Why? Because you’d rather LSU play Michigan? Just because it’s not in the same or a neighboring state doesn’t mean it’s not better.

I would’ve posted the same thing had it been said about a different team (although probably would’ve put it on a different board). It just came across as a forced, dishonest statement.

In this mega conference era where West Virginia is in the Big 12 and Big 10 spans from Nebraska to Rutgers (1,290 miles) anyone that pretends to give a frick about distance is full of shite.

I’m sure Michigan would have turned down the Rose Bowl, if offered, you know, because of distance.

Just be honest and say “we didn’t want the Peach Bowl to have a matchup of two Florida schools whose fans didn’t really want to come to the game (UCF was there last year and UF doesn’t travel all that well)

10 hr drive from Ann Arbor to Atlanta??.. It's nearly a 9 hr drive from central Louisiana and we are wayyyyy closer to Atlanta than Ann Arbor.
