I never liked the conf champ unwritten rule everyone wants.

Unless every eligible playoff conference doesn't conform to the same rules as it pertains to conference champions, then it shouldn't be a requirement, in my opinion.

I only put it in my scenario as a compromise for people who bitch about it every year.

Point in case, you'd have Northwestern heading to the playoffs over teams like Georgia because "they won their conference". All because they played in a shitty division.

Format for all P5 conferences should be, all teams play each other, if there is a tie at the end of the season concerning who is the champion, then have alternate criteria for deciding who is crowned for that conference.

And Herbstreit is wrong...UGA was massacred by LSU - that still counts.

ND needs to be out at #5. They almost lost to Vandy. fricking VANDY. Almost lost to the same Pitt team Clemson is destroying. Struggled won against Northwestern and USC. Oh plus is only team not playing today.

Alabama almost lost to Georgia today, which would have likely put them out of the playoffs. But they didn't so they are in.

Notre Dame won all of their games. They are in.

I think after the next round of conference alignment (2021), it'll probably be 4 super conference and an 8 team playoff. With one less conference, you're less likely to get a shite team that auto-qualifies for the playoff.

Solves a ton of complaints:
More football for fans
Allows the "conf title" people to be appeased
Allows the "eye test" people to be appeased
Allows the "UCF should be in" people to be appeased
More money for the universities

Every other major collegiate sport has a vast field of teams to decide and it's always exciting. College football should be no exception.

Would OU, Notre Dame or Ohio St have their same record in the SEC? No fricking way. On that notion Georgia is the better team versus those 3 and imo they are also better than Clemson.

That being said they wont get in. They deserve to be, but they had the misfortune of having to pay Bama in their conference title game.

Then frick it, go to 16.

Playoff expansion is stupid and you should feel stupid.

It isn’t about finding the 5th best team. It’s about determining the best team.

This does that.

Stop playing the Citadel and Murray State, and we’ll have that discussion.

The SEC East was trash outside of Georgia. We’d have gone 11 - 1 or 12 - 0 there, too.

I agree. ND should have to play a 13th game. They should schedule Citadel for that one. Or Rice. Or Wofford. Or some other FCS loser team that all SEC teams play.

The 13th game argument is weak.

Just frick the regular season

This is what some nebulous playoff selection gets you.

"4 best teams" - what the frick does that mean? Shite people can't even all agree that Jordan was the best basketball player of all-time and he had a 25 year Nike marketing head start on LeBron and Kobe.

How the frick in one season are a bunch of boobs going to decide "the 4 best teams" based on an 11 game schedule, in disparate conferences and some schools getting the benefit of big name and what did you do last year.

It should have been taken out of a Committee's hand from Day 1.

You take the P5 Conference winners period...all of them...lets decide it on the field.

And one-at-large.

You cats don't want any part of UGA again (provided our coaches actually coach).

We knew this the first time, that's why I was so infuriated.
