Does DD&D bring you in to places to eat...

...just because they are featured on DD&D? Does that automatically carry weight for you?

Absolutely. Mayor of Flavortown only goes to the bomb.com joints.

I get a lot of my restaurant ideas when traveling from the show. Every one I’ve been to (maybe 10) has been great.

Not going to lie, before I visit a city, I check the Flavortown map.
ETA: It's not that it carries any weight its really because I don't know anything about the restaurants of a city and Flavortown is a good way to see what they offer.

I've been to a couple and it was good. If it looks decent during the show chances are it is.

nah, i usually watch more when it's places I already know about.

We look for a DDD place when traveling. One reason is to avoid the fast food chains and eat at a local place.
We have eaten at about 16; about 4 of them were great, about 1/2 were ok, and the rest were disappointments. But most of them we have only eaten at once - hard to judge a place based on one visit.
The biggest disappointment was a place in Fairhope, AL. It was supposed to have Cajun food but it was not good. Don’t remember the name.

The Gumbo Shack in Fairhope was not good. (Had to look the name up.)
Neither one of us liked it.
By comparison, on that same road trip we ate at Chimes in BR & loved it.

I never think to look but apparently I've been to a couple that have been on the show

I have not been to the Gumbo Shack, but have seen that episode more than once. I would not go there based upon what I saw on the show. OF COURSE it escapes me, now, but I remember enough to know I commented on it each time I saw the segment.
Something about the way he did crawfish? And maybe tomatoes in his gumbo?

Yep was just in SLC. Moochies was a treat I’d of never got to.

Coincedentally the Gumbo Shack episode was on this afternoon. Let's just say his gumbo was non F&D approved.
To the OP, I absolutely consult DDD to try to find some places that interest me when traveling. And most deliver

I googled The Gumbo Shack to try and watch that episode even though I had seen it.
Found out it is permanently closed.
I’ve encountered that before; DDD places permanently closed that is. Being on DDD doesn’t guarantee success.

The only time I've been to a place on DDD was in Key West at the little burrito shop that was featured.
It was an Ok buritto.

We've been to a few, not always a great indicator. There is a place in Slidell, La Pines, that featured a prime rib sandwich, it was terrible. I should have known when Fieri had to show the owner how to cut corn off the cob. Sometimes these places get a rush of new customers and they can't handle it, La Pines might be better now.

There is an app we use that has all of the TV food shows on it. dd&d, Delicious Destinations, Food Paradise and others.
We use it all the time. It is called TV Food Maps. Give it a try if you upgraded from a flip phone.
