He didn't do that with Canada after promising to revamp the offense to get the job. What makes you think there;'s a snowball's chance in hell he does it now?

Self-preservation.

He has yet to successfully implement an offensive philosophy as a head coach, and he probably realizes his arse is on the line if he doesn't relinquish some control and the production doesn't improve.

I agree It’s not super common

But at the same time Gilbert and Briles have brought their OL guys around with them. The Briles and Leach coaching trees are pretty incestious.

Why do people think that Canada was a good OC ? I'm sure that's the same people that thought Charlie Weis was a good OC. Canada had his moments in a weak conference. His overall body of work though doesn't look good at all.

If he brings in a new OC it shows he is committed to winning and making us better. Dinardo got fired for not doing that. For recruiting purposes I wish they’d make an announcement quick if there really is a plan in place.

Is this the reason Les Miles didn't hire Orgeron before 2015 because Chavis preferred Brick Haley?

As a head coach, I think it's fine to get input from an OC if there are coaches they work well with and gel with, but as a position coach, you should be able to work under any OC or play-caller. I'm not sure OC candidates looking for a job at a major D1 school are going to turn down a position because they can't hire all of their own offensive assistants. I think more likely, the position coaches are the ones who are accommodating of any coordinator because they want the upward trajectory of their own careers.

Matt Canada was clearly the most difficult personality we've had (maybe outside Bo Pelini) on staff over the years and he clearly didn't care about Mickey Joseph or Ensminger or that tall OL guy who went to BYU. Canada got the $$ and it's on all of the assistants to be on board, understand, and coach to the system implemented by the OC.

I don't feel like rehashing one of the dozens of Canada debates on here, but if this was true, he never would have been an option for LSU to begin with.

you're asking whether or not an OC has been allowed to pick his staff or key parts of it the answer is yes.

Do you have examples of ah OC being able to hire multiple position coaches?

Well, technically, the OC doesn't hire anyone. So if that's where you're going with this save yourself the time. I know that.

But guys like Briles who has the old o line coach from Baylor at Houston now is one example I can think of. You can't know for sure but I would have to think he strongly advised Applewhite on the hire.

If O wants to keep all of these guys near retirement and old Les Miles coaches then so be it. My whole point was that if this cycle continues nothing will change on the offensive side no matter the OC.

Does he? Why would he?

Sure...there has been criticism on here for a long time, but in general...has anyone really been harping on the offensive woes? even here, all season long when anyone dared point out how abysmal it was, they were told to shut the frick up and look at the record and ranking.

At the end of the day, if a change is made, it's hard to believe it's because he's feeling any pressure. Oh...he should be, but I have no faith that anyone of any importance is pressing at all at this point.
