Examining the calls at the end of the game ...

An attempt at an honest look:
1) The interception that wasn't. Good call. Replay clearly showed his knee was down while grasping the ball. It sucks, but that was a correct call.
2) The first down on 4th and 18. Good call.
The yellow line drawn by the network was incorrect. There are many articles on the web that show this to be true. The receiver was past the actual first down marker. Again, it sucks; but this was also the correct call.
3) The extra second added to the clock after the spike. Probably a good call (with a caveat). The slow-mo replay showed that they snapped the ball with 1 second left. Were they all set? And were there 7 men on the line? Tough call. I have tried to look at replays and best I can say is that they were OK. Again, tough one, but I think the call was correct.
4) The Sternberger fumble/incompletion. Very much a judgment call. The review was correct not to overturn because it was called incomplete on the field. The original call could have gone either way and, whichever way it went, the review would not have overturned. Unfortunate 50-50 call.
5) The PI on Williams. Horrible call! There virtually no contact. This one was the most suspect of all the calls late in the game. I don't know what Greedy said, but the ensuing unsportsmanlike conduct call demonstrates to me that the ref may have had it out for him from the start. This is the call that, in my opinion, made was the most blatantly incorrect.
6) JaMarr Chase no catch. Correct call. He did not control the ball to the ground. No real argument here.
7) The targeting call on Phillips. Questionable, but ... Targeting is like holding - you can call it or not call it on many plays. I personally think the whole targeting thing is bullshite. But, considering what the rule is, you can't really argue with this one as there was head-to-head contact. You could say it was minor and unintentional and should not have called at that stage of the game, but that's the (stupid) rule.
So...
One blatantly bad call and a couple of 50-50 calls that reasonably could have gone either way. The rest were correct in my opinion.

The problem is how it was enforced. They stop the clock and that allows Texas A&M to reset.

It is impossible to snap and spike with :01 on the clock and have no additional time run off.

2 receivers were leaning forward and 2 were leaning back. However all 4 players feet are in the same place. It's illegal.

Yeah, shouldn't the clock have started back up right after the call is made indicating the QB was down in the field of play? I'm pretty sure it's not typical on a play that wouldn't otherwise stop the clock, that the refs don't have to allow the offensive team time to set up before starting it again, is it? It seems to me, I can recall seeing the ref making the call, thereafter making the signal to start the clock in other scenarios.
What was the rationale for how they handled it there?

A split second with a hand on the ball isn’t possession.
I do Think it was a catch,
The PI was garbage.
If just 1 of these 50-50 calls go our way we win.
If they don’t make a terrible call on the 2 pt conversion we force an 8th overtime.
Simply put, we got jobbed.

So does the clock stop on the whistle or the ball striking the ground? Big distinction between the two.

The damn thing of it all was that it was so many borderline calls and breaks that went against us, all in a row at the end of a close game.
I don’t know that I’ve seen anything else like it.

Not at all. If they call that on the field, the clock never stops running. It would have taken 10 seconds minimum just to get everyone back to the line, much less to get a play in. It would have been chaos, instead they got 5 minutes to talk over strategy. Any coach would trade 10 seconds for a timeout after a sack in that situation.
It may have been the right call, but there is no doubt that it was a huge break for aTm for several reasons and the breaks did not stop there. That’s why LSU fans are so bent over this, aTm received a gift, followed by being on the favorable side of every questionable call for the remainder of the game that saw nearly 90 points scored.

I've never seen a definitive clock stoppage of a game determined by an instantaneous visual replay act. That's not how the timekeeping of a football game has ever been determined, as far as I'm aware.

This was the worst call of the game to me. That is a 100% fumble anyway you slice. It’s the call that I can’t get over.
I didn’t like the other calls but I could live with them. The PI in Greedy was bullshite but, it is what it is.
