The defense shut down A&M after half until they got exhausted. Aranda is great at half time and in game adjustments. Please name all the DC's you think are better than him.

Pass rush has been non-existent ever since the K'Levon injury and he's done a good job covering up for that with the zones. Would have been downright nasty with K'Levon.

our defense hasn’t been great this year

Going into the A&M game, aranda’s defense hasn’t given up 30 or more points in 21 straight games which was the longest active streak in college football. The only reason his defense gave up more than 30 points to A&M in regulation was because Giles muffed a punt.

His defense hasn’t been as dominant as they have in the past, but he’s still one of the best coordinators in college football. I think he would be the first to tell you that our defense didn’t play great on Saturday.

because if we’re looking at flaws in this team, defense is not even close to being at the top of the list.

Offense has been downright putrid.
Return game has been non-existent.
Defense has been solid, but not really “elite”.

so yes, there is definitely room to criticize the D some.
but there are other issues that are a much bigger weaknesses than the defense has been.

Because we have gone 21 straight in the SEC without anyone scoring 30 on our D before Saturday. I would be willing to bet your next $500 paycheck that Aranda is more upset about the game than you.

He deserves criticism too. The 4th and 18 conversion was bad, no way they should have converted on that play. The Arkansas game and the La Tech game were head scratchers for me as well. By no means should he be fired, nor is he irreplaceable.

He is starting to, however, Aranda puts up with a lot of shite considering the offense often doesn't extend drives or provide much cushion.

I give him a pass for the college OT. At one point with the non actives and conditions of the games/players hurt.. we had like 7 starters out on D.

I still feel like our defense made the plays needed to win this game, time and time again.. only to be robbed..

And again, it was a 7 OT game with worn out players. Which is really why E shouldn't get much credit for the OT score. Both teams were clearly just gassed defensively.

A&m has a top 3 DC as well.. and he just gave up 70+ to AN LSU OFFENSE..

Think about that..

That has to be far more insulting..

Because generally speaking he does a decent job, and normally our defense keeps us in the game.

You say our defense couldn’t get any stops in OT, but we held them to a couple field goals and we didn’t have like 2/3 of our best CBs in the game.

Also I really Our defense scored a TD, and honestly I think Made multiple plays that won the game that the refs botched.

I am Not really gonna blame any but the refs for losing this game.

Also we never got “lit up”

Because even though he has to work with an offense consistently ranked in the bottom half of college going three-and-out constantly, he still manages to get top 30 defenses every year.

Offenses and defenses on the same team can feed off of each other. When good defenses get turnovers and force a lot of three-and-outs it makes the offense look better because they have short fields and get more possessions throughout the game. Likewise, a shite offense can hurt good defenses by not possessing the ball and causing the defense to constantly be on the field all game.

Take out that 7 overtime game that just occurred, because it's skews the stats, and go look at where LSU's offense and defense ranked in multiple categories before the Texas A&M game.

There you will find your answer as to why nobody is bitching about Dave Aranda. There is only one problem with LSU and it's been the same problem going on 11 years now.

Good question. 74 points is a lot of points, no matter the age, experience, style, etc. of either the defense or offense. Certainly were plenty of opportunities for "adjustments".

You have to be blind if you don’t recognize the fact that the defensive effort LSU has put forth in the last two years has dwarfed the offensive effort LSU has put forth in the last two years.

Are you saying that when the LSU defense ranks in the 30s and the LSU offense ranks in the 70s, we should put more blame on the defense??

Because the defense never should have been in the situations in which they were "exposed".

Y’all can’t be serious about the scoring in OT. I can understand the last touchdown to tie the game but one has to be retarded to not understand that defense in that many OTs is non existent the vast majority of times.

The honeymoon for Aranda is over. His D giving up 74 points to A&M is a joke.

Even without the O/T BS he still gave up 31 to A&M which is inexcusable. He gave up 29 to Alabama.

The bloom has come of the rose. Aranda is no wizard. Ens definitely needs to be replaced. Aranda is good but not as good as everyone makes out on here, after this season his stock has plummeted.

O is really the best thing LSU has going on the coaching staff and that is a sad reality.

I agree the defense did not play great. Gave up big play after big play.

The blame game. Oh well. So blame him. What does that get you? He's the smartest coach on the staff. LSU thought enough of his importance to give him a hefty raise and make him (I think)the highest paid assistant coach in the country.

Orgeron is the head coach. He isn't as smart as Aranda, at least not as to how to run a defense. If you want to run off Aranda, fine. What are you left with?

Orgeron is the head coach, which means ultimately, he is responsible for everything in the football program. Don't like a coordinator or assistant? Who hired/retained them? Don't like the offensive linemen? Who recruited them?

The book on Ed Orgeron has not yet been written. He may go down as a relatively mediocre, average head coach and win 9 games, maybe 10 every other year or so, or, maybe tank and win 6 or 7 games. Or he may recruit lights-out, and lead the team to an SEC championship berth. I'd say, he has another 2 years to show some serious progress. I question whether he should have been hired as interim HC, and HC, in the first place, but, it is what it is and for those of you who live in the real, not fantasy world, he isn't going to be fired after a 9, potentially 10 win season. Hope springs eternal and we'll see what next year holds when it gets here.

But to answer your question, what would be the purpose of assessing blame on Coach Aranda at this point in time?

It's quite maddening. He's making $2.5 million a year and has three 1st round NFL draft picks on the defense. And yet couldn't stop an A&M offense with a very average QB. His performance was embarrassing and I'm sorry, for what he is paid, this defense should be the reincarnation of the 2000 Ravens.

We had the 31st ranked defense this year. The 6th ranked defense in the SEC.

Sorry, for the money spent, that isn't good enough.
