If Giles just gets away from that punt...

instead of trying to field it going the ground, are we even having this discussion?

What is poor Mr. Giles even doing out there, fielding or fair catching any punts? What one positive thing has he added, other than mostly not muffing punts? The one he did muff Saturday was the Tigers’ undoing.

This is the real question. What did Orgeron and the offensive staff see in Giles that warranted not only return duties, but also the number 7 jersey?

It was a bad play sure but we had so many chances to win after the muffed punt that it doesn’t wven matter.

That is the moment I knew we were going to lose this game. I vented all my spleen and was just numb watching the rest of the thing unfold - it was like watching a horror movie that you'd seen a dozen times.

It does matter. It’s another in a long line of terrible evaluation and decision making by the staff. Where has Lanard been all season? Not saying he’s his brother, but you telling me he couldn’t contribute prior to the Rice and A&M game? The choices made by the offensive staff deserve all the criticism they are getting.

He has made me nervous all year. He makes fair catches everytime and always seems to misread it and have to run up at the last second to catch it.
It is a split second decision but if it looks like you have sprint to catch it....let it go.
That was a huge momentum changer. We had just scored with a great long drive and getting the ball back. Gave them hope

He makes me nervous because it’s obvious he is nervous. How does Orgeron not recognize this? You’re absolutely right.

No. No we are not. But our coaches seem to neglect things that are obvious to us couch potato fans.
If WE see it, then everybody sees it.

In that case Giles has to get away from every short punt he fielded this year - and he saved quite a few.

There is absolutely no reason to ever dive for a punt. None whatsoever

The fact that, according to the play not to lose "coaches," Giles is the only player that can field punts is insane?? The kid is slower than me, and probably hasn't even attempted to return a handful of kicks all YEAR. MY GOSH!!!

Fielding a short punt and diving for a 50 yd line drive punt are 2 entirely different things.
You never dive to 'field' any punt.

The fact that Orgeron declared “we can’t cover him!” in the spring reveals all you need to know about O’s abilities as a talent evaluator.

Right. All we heard last season was Giles was by far the best receiver on the team..
I guess it's possible, but that's concerning if true. I just can't imagine it.

Shocked I tell you what.

We should just go for the block not even have a return guy back there.

Exactly. That was a bad play by Giles on so many levels.

quote:agreed. A lot of time was left and any momentum we had could have been easily pissed away. Giles was just trying to keep the ball from bouncing down field. He was hustling to make a play when the risk was too high.

McMahon decided that Giles was the best option.
Tommie Robinson is one of his old USC BBQ Buddy's.
James Cregg is one of his old USC BBQ Buddy's.
Dennis Johnson is a very recent Graduate Assistant BBQ Buddy. (Just think, in a short span, we've gone from Ed Orgeron and Pete Jenkins coaching DL to an inexperienced GA)
Ed doesn't interview and then hire great assistants like Nick does. He hires BBQ Buddy's.
That don't cut it in the SEC West, that is if your goal is to win the West.
