Yeah, Im not thinking of that correctly. I agree with you about the hand signals can call a play dead.
But that doesnt happen until after the fumble and recovery by Greedy.

If that's in the endzone, it is a touchdown. If it was on the sideline and Delpit doesn't hit him but he goes out, it is a catch.
Just my opinion.

The fact that SEC officials didn’t review this call as well as the other one where the A&M player came up short on the first down is a joke, especially when you consider that they took considerable time to conduct a review of the Aggie return for a supposed touchdown on the Dee Anderson (or Sullivan) incompletion.

Regardless, the rule is inadvertent WHISTLE. There is no such thing as inadvertent hand signals.
You’re making it up as you go but it is entertaining.
The official ruled it an incomplete pass. He waved the play dead. Doesn’t matter who picked it up and ran whenever. The ref simply made a call. He decided it was an incomplete pass. It could have gone either way and you could make an argument for it being called either way. But the official made his call.

He controlled that ball. All this bullshite about a football move, etc is insane. What if he would make a catch standing still and not make another move? Is it a catch? Sure it is. Because he has it controlled. Why are we punish for getting there quickly
Bingo!!!
Football move is rubbish when the good hands receiver catches the frigging ball. What is the DB supposed to do, start looking for 3 steps to time his hit. Hell no, it is bang bang. They need to look at it like without the hit does the receiver catch the ball. Well, that sure hands Steinberger caught that ball without a doubt, and Delpit gets penalized for a great hit to preserve the game victory for LSU... This sucks!!!!

But it totally eliminates the possibility that Greedy will also fumble the ball as he runs with it. Once the play is dead, you simply cannot determine the unknowable outcome from that point

Found this for inadvertent whistle provisions, check out #4:
NCAA inadvertent whistle rules
4-2-b
If an official sounds his whistle inadvertently or otherwise signals the
ball dead during a down (Rules 4-1-3-k and m):
1. When the ball is in player possession, then the team in possession
may elect to put the ball in play where declared dead or replay the
down.
2. When the ball is loose from a fumble, backward pass or illegal pass,
then the team in possession may elect to put the ball in play where
possession was lost or replay the down.
3. During a legal forward pass or a free or scrimmage kick, then the ball
is returned to the previous spot and the down replayed.
4. After Team B gains possession on the try or during an extra period, then the try is over or the extra-period possession series is ended
ps - It really isn't even an inadvertent whistle issue. The whistle and hand signals occurred after LSU recovered the fumble. They can review the play and overturn it as a fumble instead of an incomplete pass and clearly see LSU recovered the fumble. You could say the whistles can be deemed inadvertent but that would mean the game is over anyway because LSU had already taken over possession of the ball (assuming replay ruled so).

A fumble. 100%. Got ripped off. Also the damn clock keeper needs to find work elsewhere. You got screwed. Sad but nothing to do about it.

It got no looks from the refs, they went with the live call and didn't consider a replay. A game-deciding very close decision and they don't even look at it. That's inexcusable.
And where does the decision not to review it come from? Hmmmm....

To me, it was one of those rare--- it could go either way calls. It was that close IMO.
The fact that it wasn't reviewed and given and explanation afterwards was what I had a problem with.
Was it a catch? I've seen plays like that 1,000 times and it's been called both ways.
There were several calls that didn't go our way. Seems like all of them went A&M's way but that's how the losing team always feels

He never tucked the ball away. No one runs with the ball held out in front of them, like it is when Delpit makes contact. No possession
You don’t have to “tuck the bal away”. He clearly has it in two hands. You can run with the ball like that if you want to. It’s not advised but you can do it.
Sorry, it was a catch and a fumble. Gameover! We are 8 in a row against them.

Not if the whistle blew which I believe it did. That’s why it wasn’t reviewed.
Completely done on purpose.

I love all the posts the past twenty hours that were like “he caught the ball turned and took three steps!!!”
It was a very close call that I think should have gone our way but in live speed I can absolutely see how it was called the other way.
I’m not 100% convinced he isn’t bobbling and still trying to secure the ball before Delpit brings the pain.

In fact, both officials are signaling dead ball on the sidelines
After he picks it up he’s on the sidelines waving. I hear no whistle. Sorry. It’s a fumble.

There isn't even a hand signal until after Greedy picks it up.....

Exactly! And even then, that ref is about to bust a nut running out there trying his best to wave it dead. I’ve never seen a ref act in such an exaggerated manor over an “incomplete pass”.
Posted on 11/25/18 at 5:26 pm to The Mick
Pretty clear that’s a fumble.
Posted on 11/25/18 at 5:29 pm to The Mick
The fact that the tight end reached for the ball after he dropped it shows he himself knew it was a fumble. The fact that the whistle being blown after Greedy picked it up is pathetic. The game should have been over after that play.
